Hey guys. I've been trying to use my TV as a second monitor. Having some trouble and tried to search but nothing came up and honestly, it's a little hard to search for this particular problem.

    Ok.

    NP9262, 8800M GTX
    WinXP 32 and Vista 64
    Dox 185.68 and Nvidia 179.48

    1080P LCD TV

I've tried every combination of OS and driver to no avail.

I just can't get 1080P to show properly. 720P works. As well as a handful of other resolutions but I didn't extensively test the resolutions I have no interest in.

I'm connecting the TV through the VGA cable. The thing is, when I select 1920x1080 for the TV resolution, the TV shows the 1920x1080 screen...but in 4:3 mode. I set my TV to show full 16:9.

So basically, VGA out to 1080P HDTV. Select 1920x1080 for the resolution. TV displays 4:3 signal even though it's in 16:9 mode.

    1280x720P shows properly. 16:9 Widescreen.

But why oh why will 1080P not work? Probably isn't the TV, VGA cable.

Must be a software or setting problem or something?

If anyone has any insight to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Have you tried using the DVI port to output to the television? I have no problems using DVI or VGA on my NP9262, but I'm using Dox 182.46 for the video driver.

Problem with DVI is that, if I use it, I can't get audio to work. My TV only has HDMI and VGA. The audio input seems to be tied to the VGA input setting so while a DVI-HDMI connection works perfectly, there is no audio. No way to switch audio either.

The DVI-HDMI gets the TV going into 1920x1080 perfectly which makes me lean towards it being a software hiccup.

You could look into getting a DVI + coax audio -> hdmi combiner

My solution is to just use the DVI -> HDMI method, and use my wireless headphones. However, that doesn't seem to be an option for you. How about external speakers?

My HDTV doesn't have an audio input on the VGA input, only on one specific HDMI port. Later today, I can test to see if 1920x1080 works on VGA out for me if you like.

I'd appreciate that. I just don't know why this is happening. Other resolutions get pushed to the TV correctly. Even tried a friend's HP laptop. His computer didn't have 1920x1080 as a resolution option but other 16:9 resolutions worked fine. 1680x1050 I think?

    Sorry, I've been busy.

I just tried it. On VGA output, my display works fine at 1920x1080 and 1280x720. It must be your TV. What make/model is your TV? I use a 52" Sony XBR5 (KDL-52XBR5).

Edit: It's also not stretching the image at 1920x1080. Everything works just fine.

Can I ask which drivers you are using? Perhaps that's contributing to the problem. I want to try and see if it's a software problem before I finally do something about the TV.

    Thanks.

You really should go ask dox about this over at LV2GO. Maybe he cludged something in that driver.
If I were you I would try uninstalling your drivers (in XP) and try 185.68 with Pieter's mod INF.
If that works then try Dox's version, then if it doesn't tell him about it.
You could also try 182.50 with Pieter's mod INF. (make sure to uninstall before downgrading)

You might be setting something wrong. You may have to check a check box in the driver control panel to force it to run it in HDTV mode. (my homemade projector needs that for 1080p over HDMI)

Your TV might come with a custom timing information page in its manual for running VGA.
You may need to manually adjust it.

Personally I would just use DVI to HDMI to your TV and run your audio to an AV receiver. (preferably 8 channel, hehe)
Even a pair of 2.1 computer speakers probably can put out better audio than the TV does. I would just turn the TV's audio off permantly if I were you.
