Hi all, i am a noob here. After accidentally hearing about Clevo & finding this wonderful site , i spent hours reading every thread related to Clevo..
But the models & the threads are so much that i think i need another 1 month to finish all.
So i request any expert to help me choose a Clevo Laptop with i7 4700 or 4800 ? & nVidia GTX 770/780 ? 8GB or 16GB RAM ?
There are so many series & so many customizations, i am totally lost & i cannot come to a conclsion about which model & what config i should buy...
My budget is less than 2000 USD & I sometimes play Games but mostly for encoding & decoding & regular browsing & tweaking with softwares & also planning to install Hackintosh OSX + Linux triple boot... & sometimes i need this for programming & compiling android ROM.
I need your advice on CPU/GPU/RAM size & other important things on which i must consider & buy
Any suggestions are mostly welcome...
Thanks in advance & sorry for being so noob & asking for help here... If it should be moved to appropriate section then also i am fine... I need answer for this bug in my mind... Heard & seen so much good things about Clevo. Hence my next Lappy would be Clevo. Now i am using Dell Inspiron E1505 which i bought 8 yrs back !!! yes thats true... Still it is working & is in good condition...
Thansk in advnace... hoping to hear positive response from experts pls..

What size do you want it in?
By the way, XoticPC or Mythologic are good resellers if you are from the US. -
15" is nice...
How is the battery backup for 15" ?
What discounts we can expect for students from all these resellers ? -
I don't know, since I didn't order from any of those two.
If you want a strong 15" laptop though, you can check out the P150SM. Anyways, to answer your questions:
If you want the best mobile GPU, get the 780M. Although it would be handy to know what games you play. If you play Minecraft for example, a 765M will be more than enough. If you play Battlefield, get the 780M.
8GB RAM is more than enough, but since RAM is so cheap, why not get 16GB?
Any quad-core processor will do fine. The 4800MQ fullfiled my needs, so I chose that one.
Hope I helped. -

For a 15.6" I would suggest the NP8255 it comes with a GTX 770M as the default GPU and you can upgrade to the 780M if you want. The one you pick will depend on the games you play like 1nstance mentioned.
One thing not metioned yet is getting a SSD or mSATA drive as the OS drive. Definitely get one of those which with your budget should be no problem. We typically will recommend Intel or Samsung.
For the student discount you'll want to contact the different resellers as we're not allowed to talk about discounts. You can PM once you get 5 posts or email directly. -
Ok, Thanks a lot for all those who cared to reply for my queries..
I must admit that i am not an avid Gamer & sometimes i play games.. thats all. Mostly i need it for video processing / encoding & decoding & compressing media...that sort of things... you know what i mean.
I will choose CPU i7 4700 ( why many resellers dont enlist 4702 ? i wonder ) & 120GB SSD for OS & 8 or 16GB RAM ?
and the rest like Gamut screen & 1TB 7200RPM HDD & wifi card - which one to choose ? i wont play online RPG...
also for me GTX 770 would be more than enough at present..
Which reseller i should choose & who has got the best rates & best A.S.S
i need to know about discounts also if available. I am student yet, so not having much cash in hand....
Which model / series has the best looks & best build shape ? so many models r there... it is very confusing to choose the perfect one for me..
Hence i am asking you here...
I hope i have provided enough for you all to find me a best suitable Laptop !
Thanks in advance... Take care. -
I went with the higher quality screen but didn't notice any difference.
The 4700MQ will be a better buy than the 4702MQ. Temperature isn't really a problem and you will likely see 4 or more hours on battery anyway.
128GB on the SSD is good in my opinion. My OS as well as most of my every day programs fit and I still have ~50GB free.
I would avoid the Killer wireless cards. I've seen a lot of threads about them not working properly. -
The Clevo and Sagers are the same, just different model numbers.
The 770M is perhaps over kill for most online games. Online games tend not to use high end graphics, so that more people can play. If you just do online rpgs, then you could save money with a lower gpu. If you want to play games like Skyrim, then a 770M is good.
For video editing, I think the 95% screen is a good choice. Others have said it is worth it. Also the 1TB 7200 drive would give you lots of room and not be too slow of a drive.
And as mentioned, get the Intel 7260 instead of the Killer.
8GB of ram tends to be enough. But it is cheap, so might be worth it to upgrade to 16gb.
I like the NP8255 & NP8265 models. They are the same except the NP8255 has a graphic on the touchpad, btw the light can be turned off. Also the NP8255 can have four drives plus a blu-ray drive, or blu-ray burner. The NP8265 can have three drives plus the optical drive. Both can swap the optical drive for another drive, which makes for a max of five or four.
Also both models have a special edition, NP8255-S and NP8265-S, which are good deals if you want the upgrades.
Personally I like gaming, so I plan to get the NP8255-S. -

Depends on the style of online game, a 770M will do very well with battlefield 4 for instance.

Thanks a lot for all those replies. I really appreciate it.
Now i am almost sure which components to choose from. Initially i was so tempted to choose the best & highest spec in every category.
Thank god, all you experienced people here shared your views on what is important for me & saved my money !
One last question, is the build quality same for both Sager & Clevo laptop ? & also for different series within each brand name the same ?
Should i go for Blue ray writer or reader or should i totally avoid Optical drive & instead get a caddy ? after all who uses Optical drive these days ?
Which carry case is of good quality ?
regarding the screen can i go with normal screen or the 95% Gamut screen ?
Also regarding the dead pixel guarantee, shall i choose the default one or the one with 30 or 60 days warranty for dead pixel ? what is the difference ?
Am i allowed to choose the 9 cell battery instead of 6/8 cell one ? is that possible ?
Finally, is there any other accessory i need to buy other than mentioned in the above posts for me ? i mean the important must have ones along with laptop....If at all if any things are there ! pls let me know..
Once again thanks a lot for your invaluable advices... This has made my research smooth & efficient like a cake walk...
All the credit goes to this forum & the advanced users who cared to reply for this noob.... Thanks a lot guys... -

The build quality between Sager and Clevo will be identical if you get a computer built off the same barebones. For example the P157SM will be the same regardless if its called a Sager NP8255 or another name.
The different series do have differnet builds. The NP8235, NP8255, NP8265 have all different chassis. If you plan on watching blu ray movies on the computer then you should get a blu ray drive, but that would really be the only need for one unlees you plan on burning blu ray movies then you'll want to make sure you have blu ray burning capabilities as well. Do you have a decdent size blu ray movie collection now? If yes then go for it. I have quite a few but never have watched one on my notebook before, I'd rather watch them on my TV, when i do want to watch a movie playing on my computer its usually downloaded.
The Slappa cases are a nice quality.
I would go with the 95% matte screen, I really like how they look and we hear great feedback all the time from people who have got one.
Sagers dead pixel policy will require 5 total or 1 in the middle. I do recommend the 30day because if you get a single one your eye will always be drawn to it and it will bug you. The difference in the 30 and 60 day is just the length of time that if you get 1 dead pixel it will be covered under warranty.
There are no alternate batteries made.
For other accessories, not really one but I alway recommend IC Diamond Thermal compound for better temps. -
Should i choose copper cooling system along with IC Diamond Thermal compond or IC DT compound is sufficient ?
Usually dead pixel is covered under warranty right ? or it is not & i should choose that 30/60 days zero dead pixel warranty ?
Also i wont see any reviews or real life pics of NP8255/55/65 . Tell me which is the simplest & best looking laptop among all these series...
i want to see how they look in real.
Thats all for now... Thanks for your reply... -

Always IC Diamond, Copper cooling if you want the lowest temps possible.
No brands cover a single dead pixel unless you get one of the options that do. Dell, Sony, MSI, Asus, Sager etc will have different policies on how many are needed before they cover it other wise its "with tolerance"
I do like the NP8265 the best, for the backlit keyboard and more professional look. -
Finally, what discount i can get as a student & is Professional calibration required by Xotic Team for Gamut screen or not ?
How cool is GTX 780 & 770 when it comes to playing games or Media coding/decoding ? asking this because i want to know whether i should be including the copper cooling system or not..
What other free accessories i will be getting if i order from Xotic ?
Also can i get a video review of this NP8265-S /NP8265 model before i make up my mind for sure & go ahead in placing an order ?
I haven't found its review online yet.... could you share that link pls....
Waiting for your reply. Thanks in advance. -

All sager models with a 770/780 use a copper heatsink.
