Hey Guys,
Trying to extract the SATA files for winxp, but the install exe will only seem to write to a floppy disk, which I don't have, can anyone help? can I extract to harddrive or usb mem stick?? I'm trying to create a dual boot with Vista & XP
Cheers to anyone that can help, if in NZ I will buy you a pint![]()

Yes to a memstick/flash drive is best and install when you are choosin which patition to install to. Use the driver from Intel as it is the most stable now.

u can use a freeware called nlite and slipstream these drivers into the xp cd drive. y cant u try that ??

Hey Kathman,
You'll need to extract those SATA drivers onto a floppy disk for sure. Windows XP only reads the SATA drivers from a floppy disc.
A much easier way to install XP with SATA drivers is to slipstream them with a program called nlite. If you don't have access to a floppy disk drive, just pop down to an internet cafe. They usually have older computers that have floppy drives. Bring a blank, formatted floppy disc and a usb flash drive with you. Once you double click the .exe it will extract the SATA drivers to the floppy disk. Now copy the extracted files onto the usb flash drive.
Now that you have the files on a usb drive, you can put them onto your 9262. Now install nlite, and follow the instructions. It is a very simple program to use. Once you've slipstreamed the drivers, you'll need to burn the .iso to a CD. You'll then have an XP installation CD with SATA already loaded, thus, no need for a floppy drive during the installation.
BTW, I'm in Auckland, and my favorite beer is Monteith's black! lol. -
Thanks guys,
JigoloPete21 Thanks, did what you recommended, the drivers actullay then booted from the the mem stick, however windows would not recognise the partition that I had set up or the extra drive (I have 2 drives in raid 0 & one not)
So I'm going to slipstream as well & search elsewhere to get help on the partition problem, idealy I want to install on the the non raid drive! Wondering if it will be easier to format then start with xp then install vista ??? what do you reckon?
A Monteiths it may have to soon be lol!!! -
I think you should install XP first, and then Vista. I believe there are a few threads on dual booting XP and Vista in this forum, you might want to use the search function to see if it can locate any threads. Otherwise, you can google the answer too =).

try this..... go to bios>>onboard peripherals>>SATA>>change the option from 'raid' to 'sata'.(path may slightly differ for different bios) now try installing winxp. u will not need any additional drivers
-
That is incorrect. XP does not have SATA/RAID drivers built in. SATA/RAID drivers either need to be slipstreamed into the installation, or installed with a floppy disk via the F6 installation method.
-
Yes it has, for Intel and nVidia chipsets.

I tried using Fade To Black's method but I did not see anything in the bios refering to SATA or RAID. I also tried using a flash drive. I rebooted the XP Pro cd and hit F6. When it came to installing the additional drivers it did not recognize the flashdrive. It only said the there was no floppy drive.

yeah the whole floppy drive nightmare
well usb floppy drives usually work well (unless you have an ASUS motherboard BOOOO!) and are recognised by xp install
you should be able to pick up a floppy usb drive for around $20 £10 -
You can do it far more cheaper/easier, with nLite. You can integrate all the drivers you want and XP will use them.
