These are the two below I've used in the past for gaming and both never gave me any problems. I'm going to distinguish them between their wireless specs because thats the reason I switched from one to the other...

If you are going to be gaming using the wireless 802.11g, then I've used this router before...Its $52 after rebates on newegg.com

Ever since I upgraded to 802.11n, I've been using this router and it seems to be working great so far.... (i know its a little expensive, but N is the latest technology).

EDIT: Just remembered something regarding C&C3 and issues with Linksys when playing online...maybe someone else can confirm that. If you are going to be playing C&C3, then my suggestion is useless.

Yeah I'd also recommend the Linksys unless you want 802.11n, if you want a linksys don't go for anything other than the WRT54GL, I've tried just the WRT54G(v5-it has bad firmware) and was mildly disappointed.

Edit: And I HIGHLY recommend you use http://www.dd-wrt.com as your firmware (for the Linksys), its like turning a 60 dollar router into a $300 one, it allowed my to boost my signal at least anther 30 meters and a heck of a lot of other cool things I couldn't do with the standard firmware.

Wireless seems to give pretty low lag so long as you aren't sending too much data to and from the router, and so long as your CPU isn't maxed out. With a multi-core CPU it works a lot better. My last notebook choked badly on wifi when it came to lag. Throughput was okay.
