Hi all, I'm going to buy my first gaming laptop. What do you think about this setup for the Clevo P170HM:

    I7 2630QM 2,0-2,9 GHz 6 MB
    8 GB Kingston ValueRAM DDR3 1333 MHz (2x4 GB)
    AMD Radeon 6990M 2 GB
    IC Diamond 7 - cpu & gpu
Seagate Momentus XT 500 Gb/4Gb Hybrid
    DVD-burner
    Intel Centrino 6230 Advanced

Is this CPU enough for games or is a 2760QM worth $170 extra? I'm probably going to mount a larger SSD in the future so this hybrid drive will do for now.

My main issue is what screen to choose, because I can't see them irl first. I have only used standard matte screens before on my prevoius laptops and for the desktop and they were ok, I think.
If the V4 90% glossy screen offer better contrast and colours I wan't to give it a shot.
I'm just a litte worried if it's going to be tougher on the eyes for longer sessions, because I don't have the best sight and my eyes get tired easily.
Anyway, I can choose from these screens:

    Standard 1920x1080 glossy 60%
    Standard 1920x1080 matte 60%
    AUO B173HW01 V5 matte 72%
    AUO B173HW01 V4 glossy 90%

    Which screen would you recommend?

    Thanks

Thanks. It's actually leaning towards the AUO B173HW01 V4 glossy 90%.
What about the cpu? Is there any noticeable difference in game performance between the 2630QM and 2760QM?

Yes there is. Mine is 2760 and with a Arctic MX-2 it runs so cool, that its constantly (90% of the time) in turbo mode, getting 3,47GHZ in 1 core and 3.4Ghz in 2 cores!

With 2630, all you can get is a mere 2,9 in 1 core and 2,8 in 2 cores....

    Check this out

JUST to be on the safe side - GET 2760!!! You wont regret it. It also supports 1600mhz ram, has encryption algorythms and crazy turbo boost. :D

    Hi Sonny,

The 2760 won't make much of a difference for gaming, but if you budget allows it then go for it. But definitely opt out of the 2860QM upgrade vs price doesn't warrant the up in price.
The screen comparison is a tough and personal call, you can always go with the base screen and get a 22" LCD or bigger and hook it up DVI while you play your games.

Ok good to know. The screen is quite important for me because the main reason for this purchase is because I'm going to live temporary in Switzerland for a half year. So this gaming laptop will be perfect when I get bored stuck at the hotelroom.
Back at home I will connect it to my 46" Samsung Led tv

For 6 months of pure laptop gaming then i recommend going with the base screen since you'll have a monitor when you get back.

Notebook check did a test to see if CPU made any difference for gaming. The conclusion was basically - no, just get the cheapest one. The only exception was Black Ops where a lowly i3 scored a few FPS lower. But then, Black Ops was always considered to have been poorly ported from a technical perspective, so I personally would still go with an i3 and use the savings for an SSD (/more SSD capacity).
