    Hi all,
I just got a brand new NP8652-S (first Sager! woohoo). I'm not incredibly tech savvy and can't seem to decide which Windows version I want to go with. I have equal access to 7, 8.1, and 10, but I'm not at all familiar with the latter 2.

Does anybody have experience with Windows 10? I keep hearing that it's actually really good, but the privacy issues freak me out. What do you think about the allegations that Win10 is spying on people and collecting personal data?

Or should I just stick to 7?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

If you aren't sure about Windows 10, you can always go for Windows 7 or 8.1 first, then upgrade to Windows 10 later on (I believe you have on year to upgrade for free).

I am using Windows 10 on my Eurocom M5 Pro (pretty much the same laptop as yours, specs at my signature), so far it's pretty great. I had heard about the privacy issues about Windows 10, you can always turn off some privacy settings on Windows settings.

There might be some driver issues for the Ethernet for Windows 10. The one Sager and Eurocom provided didn't work for me... I had to download the driver from Realtek to get it all working. Maybe that's not the case for you, but it did for me.

Other than the drivers issue, I am really enjoying Windows 10. Most (if not all) softwares and games are working for me, and the comeback of the start button is always nice.

Most people are going to either say Windows 7 or 10. 10 is newer and does have some added features, but there are concerns with data collection as mentioned, and there seem to be some issues that aren't still worked out completely yet (like drivers mostly). If you do go with 7 now, then you would have until the end of July '16 roughly, to take advantage of that free upgrade. Or if you get 7 or 8.1, then decide to upgrade to 10, you could roll it back within the first 30 days to go back to your original OS. So there is some flexibility there.

A lot of people are still partial to 7 because it was Microsoft's last traditional desktop OS. Things are moving forward though and with DX12 I think an update to 10 is warranted despite the differences. That being said I would ditch this OS in a second if Linux had parity with Windows in gaming.

Thanks everybody for your posts. I didn't know about the possibility to roll back without reinstalling everything, so I may just give 10 a try and see how much has changed.
The "we can watch everything you do and have access to all your files" aspect doesn't sit very well with me though.

There is an option in the "update and security" options within Win 10, that if you want to roll it back to the previous 7 or 8 it will do it for you. It will leave your programs and settings in the computer without doing a clean install.

I like Windows 10 plus you can always turn the privacy features off so you don't get spied on (as much).

Kinda liked XP ... only reason to switch to 7 was DX11 ...

Bit of a déjà vu, eh?

10 has gotten a lot of good feedback, as long as you can get all the drivers working. There is also a concern about the info it sends back to Microsoft but there are programs to help limit or stop most of that.

There have been reported issues with Windows 10 and older panels using the LVDS connectors. Shouldn't apply in this case though.
