I just bought a barebones M570RU-U with the 8800 GTX, 1920x1200. It appears to be loaded. It is my first barebones laptop, but I've built some towers.
I plan on the T9500 CPU,
2x2Gb G Skill,
WD Black 320 Gb,
and Win 7 Pro.
Is the Intel Turbo Memory, Internal PCIe card worth $40?
Suggestions and/or opinions on improving the build are very welcome.
Is there a source for better internals, such as fans, CPU coolers, GPU coolers?
I would like to do some OCing (CPU & GPU). Looking for a 3DMark06 >10k. Is it possible?
I d/l the service manual, but may ask for some help on installation.
Thanks in advance.

Turbo Memory IMO is not worth the upgrade. You could maybe talk to Soviet Sunrise about how he modded is M570 heatsinks. There is really nobody that sells different heatsinks.
-
If there are thermal pads on the GPU heatsink, remove the one in the middle and put some thermal grease on the GPU die. It does its job a lot better. You don't have to remove the thermal pads that go on the VGA memory, just the one in the middle that makes contact with the GPU die.
And no, Intel Turbo Memory is not worth 40$. It would be better to replace the ODD with a 40gb SSD. -
Thanks. Trying to install CPU, RAM and HDD tonight.
A little pissed right now. It was claimed to have an integrated TV Tuner but I don't see the card. i'll be calling SVC tomorrow.
Hypersonic PC Aviator SR7 17" Barebone Gaming Notebook with Nvidia 8800M GTX Graphics at SVC.com
How do I verify it is a 8800GTX? I tried Googling the laptop S/N but nothing found.
**EDIT** - NB8E-GTX sticker on the GPU = 8800 GTX, correct?
Okay, so got it assembled. In BIOS. Shows the nVIDIA 8800 GTX, so tht makes me feel better.
I don't see a "Health" screen, nor a screen for clocks and timings. I was hoping to see idle temps and set RAM timings.
I hope if I flash the BIOS to a newer version, I'll get those capabilities. Currently BIOS Revision 1.00.08.
Can I get some recommendations on the BIOS update?
How about GPU and other updates?
Probably not gonna load Win tonight. I need some sleep. Went to the Tool concert at the Nokia in LA on Sunday (yes, a bit of bragging) and up late last night d/l and reading M570RU manual.
**EDIT** - okay, threw in the Win 7 Pro DVD, but no way am I staying up to load CPUID etc.
The large screen WUXGA is awesome!
btw - I built a tower a few months ago with i7-860, XFX 4890, 4Gb G Skill, 850W Corsair PSU, and I still have an old 15" (1024x768) flat panel - ha.
The driver disk that came with the M570 says the OS (Win 7) cannot be supported.
Help? -
What drivers do you need? Might want to look at the manufacturer's website for the latest ones.
See if any of the ones for the M570's on here work - custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks -
I d/l a bunch last night from Clevo, but ran outta time to load any. It seems Windows was able to find everything except the USB 2.0 and Flash Reader. Of course I need the USB.
Also (I'm at work so this is from memory), the BIOS lists the 8800 GTX, but in Device Manager, the display device lists generic VGA. I am able to select up to 1920x1200 resolution within Control Panel.
I still need to update the BIOS and GPU driver. I think I found a source in another thread.
Also, I'm not to savvy with GPUs. I have CCC for my ATI, but what can I use to control clocks, fans and settings with nVIDIA? -
Change the controller in the BIOS if you can: it may solve your OS installation driver issue by using a different controller.
-
Browse the driver CD that came with your laptop. You will find the setup files over there. The only driver (I think) you should download is the video card driver.
-
Thanks to a lot of searches (and hours) on this great site, I have everything working properly. No yellow flags in Device Manager.

The CD that came with the rig didn't work, I guess cuz Win 7 wasn't out when it came out. I would have thought the 64-bit Vista drivers would work, but like I said, I'm running fine.
btw - the unknown UBS2.0 device was the WebCam. After trying a few drivers, the 10Camera_V570RU2.exe - 6.32.704.3/6.64.704.3 driver from Sager NP5793 worked Software Upgrade. Sorry I don't know how or can't post the actual file.
So I have a few other issues I hope someone could help with.
Mostly, I ran 3dMark06 once, I believe before I even got the 8800 GTX recognized (Standard VGA Driver) and got almost 8900. Now that I have the 8800 GTX drivers in, I'm only getting about 4500 scores. What gives? I'm hoping to do some OCing and get close to 10k scores.

What do you need to know to help me?
Sorry if this is redundant (old) for some of you, but I have spent hours searching and either can't find exactly what I am looking for, or it is about 2 years old (understandably so) and it makes me unsure if there are more current "fixes".
Thanks for your help. -
Are you running on mains power and is the laptop on the high performance power scheme?
-
Thanks theriko. I found the high performance power scheme in Win 7, but what do you mean by mains power - AC vs. battery?
I take it my drivers are up to date? Windows says they are. Are there older drivers that are better?
My nVIDIA Control Panel Driver is 187.82 -
I took out my 500gb HDD, replaced it with a 160gb HDD to install windows 7 ultimate on my rig. After the install, the only drivers needed were for flash memory (card reader), usb2 (2mp camera) and video driver. Although the generic driver that windows 7 installed was ok, you still needed the video driver. I'm very impressed with windows 7, more so now than ever. I know when I installed Vista a few years back, I need just about every single driver just for the computer to work.
OK...I downloaded and installed the three drivers from SAGER. As you mentioned, the driver cd that comes with unit would not install the drivers, either by setup or explore. It always said "No drivers for unknown operating system". After driver installation, then do a complete windows update.
Yes...he meant make sure you're running on AC power and not battery power. -
As kobe_24 said - yes I did mean AC vs battery.
Also referring back to your 1st post, a >10k 3dM06 score is possible with this notebook - look at my sig... -
So, for some reason I can't get to the nVIDIA driver page for an 8800mGTX with Win 7, but I got the very latest nVIDIA Control Panel (Ver. 3.3.532.01) from laptops2go. I "optimized" many of the settings. Then I got a 9243 3dMark06 which seems pretty good for stock clocks.
Now I plan to OC; CPU and GPU, but first the CPU. Audigy's SetFSB Auto Tool seems easy enough to use. What a great post!
First, my CPU temps.
I idle around 23/27C. Under prime95 I get 59/63C. It seems a bit high to me, but I'm not familiar with performance laptops.
btw - My only laptop is a 6 y/o Dell (2.0 P4, 1Gb RAM, GeForce 64Mb, 1600x1200 res.), nice, but not stellar. Not much to tweak.
I searched around and found reference to fan control/speed, but don't see what to do to make this happen.
Bottom line, questions on this post;
1. Given my stock CPU speed temps at idle and load, am I okay or do I need to try my thermal paste application techniques again? I used some left over Shin-Etsu from my desktop build.
2. What is the max temp for the T9300? This would be after OC, at load of course. **EDIT** - okay, seems 105C is max. I guess I'll be comforatable up to say 90C with OC at 100% load - agree?
3. How do I get control of the CPU and GPU cooler fans?
Thanks for your help. -
Hi Racing!
I was able to run my T9300 stable at 3.2GHz no problem. It never went beyond 61c no matter what I was doing, but I did apply arctic silver on the CPU and MB chip. At 3.2GHz I was able to break the 1100 mark in 3M06. I knew I could get more out of the CPU, but there were other limiting factors, since FSB o'cling effects all components. I then got a 1GB stick of Samsung 800 RAM, and was able to clock the [email protected]! It wasn't stable, but I was able to finally run 3M06 and get over 1200 points! A little bit before that happened and afterwards, I believe I stopped posting and started enjoying my laptop.
So before you start anything, make sure you apply arctic silver on the MB (under the silver heatsink) and CPU. Using Audigy's SetFSB Auto Tool, you should have no problem running your CPU at 3.1GHz rock stable. No questions about it, the 3Ghz mark is no problem with the T9300. I've heard about the 8800m failing in so many laptops, and that FSB o'cling is also o'cling the GPU. Well, everything on my notebook still functions as it did 3 years ago. YMMV!
I just realized my battery last only 15 minutes...so maybe not everything working as it did back then.
You should be able to control the fans using FN + 1 and FN + 3 -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
But if the PCI bus was really linked to your FSB, I doubt you could get over 3ghz.
So anyway, what I'm trying to say is that overclocking the FSB won't effect your GPU except from the extra heat your CPU will be giving off. -
I hear ya bro, LOL!
I have many post here showing my overclocks and temps while at the 3.2GHz mark, so your doubt is relieved.
Speaking of doubt...that was one of the reasons I stopped posting what I was doing, because there was always someone that said "I had that and I wasn't able to do that" or "I got the samething and it wasn't stable, so what?".
I'm not going to get into the discussion of what the FSB actually overclocks, since I've turned into a mild manner young man. -
At work now, hope to work on it some more tonight, but....
OCed FSB to 2.9 and got a 3dm06 of about 10,400. I'm pretty happy with that.
Idle temps increased a little. A quick run of p95 (100% load) and temps didn't change much, like about 60-62C like you said. I used Shin-Etsu which is supposed to be as good as AS5.
I couldn't get the SetFSB to run automatically. All that happen is the Startup folder popped up after Win 7 loaded. Isn't it supposed to autorun? That thread is like 70 pages and hard to extract some exact info. I read Audigy's first post like 10 times.
Thanks Kobe. I plan to run 3.1GHz tonight and see if it is stable and cool enough. What GHz are you running everyday?
Where is the MB chip? Does it have a cooler?
Thanks for your time. -
Right now, 2.5GHz. Remember, I took out my original drive (vista install) to install windows 7 on this drive I'm using now. So right now, I don't have much of nothing on it besides the typical stuff. On the vista install, I have it to start with windows at 3GHz. That's a nice and safe overclock, since I would not benefit much if at all having it run at 3.2GHz. If it were an extreme CPU (like the one therico has), then I would run it at maximum allowable setting since you're just overclocking the CPU.
You have to copy which turbo you would like to use to the startup folder. If I were you, I would pretend Audigy's thread is a "Best Seller" and read every page. Not only that, but also do searches on different topics about the 8800GTX/9800GT. It never hurts to arm yourself with enough information to do a project, knowing the in(s) and out(s) really help in making progress.
The MB chip has a heatsink on it, you can't miss it! -

Update from work.
Still couldn't get the SetFSB Auto Tool to work. It gives me an error code and whacks out the numbers on CPUID. Has anyone used these tools in Win 7?
I can OC manually in the FSB "editor". The wierd thing there is FSB will display say 2900MHz while CPUID says 3100MHz. CPUID seems to come back to what FSB says when stress testing.
A few crashes; it sounds like 3.0 GHz is the sweet spot for the T9300.
I read about the first 20 pages of Audigy's SetFSB thread. Posts are still too old to see if it is a Win 7 issue. Anybody know?
Also, I read that the M570RU won't allow OC of the CPU and GPU at the same time. Still true?
If so, with a T9300 and 8800M GTX, which should I OC to get highest 3DM06 scores? -
C'mon!
You have to right click on the auto tool and run as administrator (do the same for auto off). I didn't want to install this on windows 7, but I had to try it just to see if it really worked or not and it does.
You're also o'clocking the ram, so your ram might not be as overclock friendly as some.
O'clocking CPU for best scores, although I was able to O'clock both GPU and CPU. You can O'clock both, it's just you can't O'clock the GPU as high as you can with the CPU being O'clocked. -
Hey, I wish it were easy too. I want to move on. This is what I get.
-
Thanks a lot for all your help Kobe.
At worknow so our Websense blocks the pic in your post. I will look at it tonight.
I think I am nearly there though.
btw - I have XP on my home desktop and old laptop, XP at the office. I've never used Vista and only using Win 7 now for about a week.
That said, thanks for the tip on the "run as admin". That has stopped the error messages.
I put the auto tools for the OCs I plan to use (2.9, 3.0 and 3.1) in C:\SetFSB\. When Win 7 boots, a popup in the bottom right corner shows SetFSB ran with SetFSB 2.9 autotool...exe, so everything seems good to that point. Maybe I can only have one auto tool in the SetFBS folder at a time?
The weird thing now is it doesn't seem to actually OC the T9300 (2.5 GHz stock). When I open CPU-Z, it shows it running at 2700 MHz, and fluctuates back to 2500 MHz. I thought maybe CPU-Z is just wrong, so I ran a 3Dm06 and got about the same number as I get with stock settings.
Thanks again for the help and baring with me. I have done a lot of research on my own trying to solve the issue, without being lazy and just asking.
For instance, I'm looking into flashing the VBIOS to OC the 8800M GTX. If all goes well, I'll have no questions. -
Hi racing!
You can have all the turbo tools in the setfsb folder, but only one instance of the program in your startup folder. You would have to copy which one of the turbo tools to your startup folder, and it will run or exec at windows startup.
Which power setting are you using for windows power scheme? I always use "Always On" or "High Performance" when dealing with my gaming/work horse computer.
Either of those setting should run your CPU at full power, and thus may keep it from idling or reverting back from that what you want.
You want to really do a lot, so I hope you have read everything carefully. Flashing the bios is simple when you know what you're doing, but can lead in to complications if you don't know what to do when a flash goes bad. Use a USB drive that is no more than 1GB is size, 256mb to 512mb is perfect for that job. Heck, even the 64mb cards, lol! It's been so long since I've done that, I would also need to brush up on things.
The version I'm using setFSB 2.1.69.0 I believe Fn + 1 toggles the fans from medium to high, and Fn + 3 toggles the fans between silent mode and auto mode. -
Thanks Kobe.
Yes I plan a lot, but all that is left is the OCing. All my drivers are up to date and I have already flashed the BIOS from .08 to .12 with no issues.
I'm just not familiar with the sublte differences between laptops and desktops. The new desktop I built was with new technology and OCing GPUs works great with ATI CCC software, and OCing CPUs is right in the BIOS.
Also, thanks for the tip on Fn + 1 and Fn + 3 on the fans. I hear them rev up and down, but I was expecting a window though and the ability to set fans to auto, or custom rev up at specified temps. Can I assume the #1 is the GPU and the #3 is the CPU?
Finally, I did set power scheme to High Performance and only one auto tool (EXE) is in the startup folder. I will hopefully fiddle around a little more again tonight and see if I missed something. Maybe I d/l the autotools for hte wrong chip. -
Looks like I got the SetFSB auto tools working fine. CPUID doesn't show the correct OC value until I load it with p95.
So tonight I went for the VBIOS flash and got stuck.
M570RU & 8800M GTX.
Created boot USB, grabbed VBIOS (62.92.23.00.14) with GPU-Z, changed to 600/1500/950 with nibitor, boot to dos, find new BIOS file all okay.
Won't flash with Refresh or Phlash16 command.
I get Bad command or file name.
I tried keeping the same file name and both .bin and .rom extensions.
Also, where can I get the best VBIOS for the 8800M GTX? Thought I saw 62.92.34.00.07 or something.
Thanks. -
Hi racing!
I promise you if you would do a search about flashing and O’cling the 8800GTX/9800GT/9800GTX you would find your answer. That is why I said be sure to read everything you can before you start, just incase something happens that you’re not familiar with.
There is probably three people with original M570RU/U (OLD SYSTEM) systems here on the boards, while the rest have moved on. So it’s pretty much up to you to find the information, as it’s not stucked in my head of all the stuff I put my system thru a couple of years ago. I do believe therico has his 8800GTX flashed, thus not needing software O’clock. So in other words…you might want to PM him?
In the mean time, search! -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Try flashing with nvflash.
-
Thanks for the help Kobe and Moral.
Yep, got it all working. I wasn't using nvflash at first, then tried in DOS, but "Bad Command", and found out it was Win version of nvflash so used Command Prompt and it worked.
I put my stock 62.92.23.00.14 to 600/1500/950 and it wasn't stable, so tonight I flashed 62.92.34.00.08 @ 600/1500/960 (Stock 1.0V).
But.....
it wasn't stable either, until I disabled the SetFSB OC.
So I ran 2 benchmarks;
1. CPU OC only @ 2.9GHz (stock GPU clocks); 3DM06=~10,400
2. GPU OC only @ 600/1500/960 (62.92.34.00.08 @ Stock 1.0V); 3DM06=~10,200
So I believe I read somewhere that you can't CPU OC AND GPU OC a M570RU at the same time. True?
If so, it looks like a CPU OC is better than a GPU OC, but not by much. I probably have a little room to increase GPU clocks and CPU freq. (3.0 GHz) and see which gives better scores. I know, it is only a benchmark.
If there is a way to OC BOTH the CPU and GPU, I NEED to find out how. Maybe a combo OC of slightly less values will give me the best scores. Maybe then I can get into the 11k scores.
Please help, and thanks as always. -
You have to realize, that it's just not enough voltage running through that machine to keep it stable enough to allow such a sequence. In one of my earlier post in this thread, I did say it is possible to O’clock both, just you can’t expect a huge O’clock on the GPU when the CPU is also O’clocked. I also said you will get better overall system performance with FSB O’clocking, due to the fact you are also O’clocking the RAM and timing of the system. Thus, you increase the overall system responsiveness. You seem to think a FSB O’clock of 3GHz is not much, when in fact it places your T9300 up there with the big boys of the C2D class processors. What do you think a T9900 is running at? Point taken!
When I got over 1200 3dmark06 using vista ultimate 64 bit, I bet I would have maybe scored close to 1400 had I just tried it with windows XP. Man, I hate I missed that opportunity to have done that.
Anyway racing, concentrate on CPU O’clock first, then look into how you want to O’clock the GPU. If I were you, I would just do what I can to get the best score, and then just do CPU O’clock. If this computer wasn’t so darn good, I wouldn’t care what I did, I would just have pedal to the metal at all times. But it’s really hard to have a great looking screen in a new notebook; this one has really spoiled me. Not this one, since I’m using the x200t at the moment, LOL! -
Thanks for the advise and support, Kobe!
I do think the CPU OCing is the way to go. I think 3.0 GHz is awesome! Actually I don't seem to be stable at the 3.0 GHz with SetFSB, but fine at 2.9GHz (both with stock GPU clocks). Any advise as to how to get 3.0 stable? Can voltage be added to the CPU? My temps are fine there.
I was able to get a very small GPU OC (524/1310/838) with 2.9GHz CPU speed. I scored 10770 3DM06.
I am very satisfied with that, but want to spend a little more time to see if I can get 11k. With 2.9GHz CPU, GPU was unstable at 540/1350. I'd like to try 532/1330, keeping with the 1/2.5/1.6 ratio of the stock speed.
If I can get the CPU stable at 3.0 GHz, that would be great, then any GPU OC I can get would be great.
Finally, temps. To get more GPU speed, even after CPU OCing, I may go to 1.05V, but under 100% load (Furmark), I get to about 82C. More voltage will make it more, of course. I'd like to apply some of my Shin-Etsu to the GPU processor cooler, but if there is tape right now, I don't want to remove it cuz paste will not be able to make up the thickness difference any better.
The CPU never gets above 62C, at 100 load (prime95) and 2.9GHz OC, so I think the Shin-Etsu is doing fine there.
PS - Thanks to the many others that have posted in the past in other threads on this forum that have helped guide me, for instance; Audigy, zfactor, theriko, gangstaone, moral hazard, emike, and more -
So using a stable 2.9GHz FSB and OC the GPU to 540/1350/864 @1.05v I was about to eek out a 3DM06 of 11,023.
Sure, my new desktop gets almost double that, BUT for a laptop (all new parts), 17" 1920x1200, I built for $1000 including OS... that rocks!
Again, thanks to this forum for the plethora of information. -
Really nice racing!
It very well could be your memory that is holding you back. If you’re using two sticks, then try one stick at 3GHz and beyond to see what happens? Try both, just as single sticks. I noticed when I couldn’t get to 3.2GHz, it was one of my RAM modules that wouldn’t do more than 3.1GHz (would freeze). If you’re using the auto tool, your CPU speed will fluctuate according. Mean it will sometimes run faster than the set CPU speed. So 2.9 can easily become 3.099 during operation.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, your mission is not completed yet! :GEEK:
NOTE: You really have some good memory! Relaxed CAS memory modules may give you a higher stable overclock. -
Yes, I believe the memory is the weak link on the FSB. The DDR2 667 is running at 388 MHz (x2 channels) = 776 MHz. Not bad RAM really. I'm not gonna pull memory to get higher scores. I just want to push it but be stable, so 2.9 GHz on the T9300 it is.
Since I am running at 2.9 GHz with the FSB, the GPU hs been tricky. I upped voltage to 1.05v and am running 540/1350/864. I tried to bump to 544/1360/870 but I overheated (90C) and it backed off to cool itself, therefore, for now, 540/1350/864 it is.
This "formula" gave me the 11,023 3DMark06. I say for now because I'm not even running a cooler, but I did have the fans high (Fn+1).
I'm not gonna change memory or CPUs, cuz my objective was a combo of budget and performance and I think I nailed that really well.
Anyway I bought two of these older barebones M570RUs with the 8800M GTX. I hope to sell this one and keep the second, which will be identical (T9300, 4GB G.Skill, & 320Gb Scorpio Black). The second I hope to do some thermal conductance work on the GPU and get a cooler then see how much deeper I can get into the 11k+ 3DM06 scores.
Even though I have all the parts (except thermal conductance "stuff"), it'll be at least a month from now before I can give word on the progress of the next one. If the thread is still open, I'll post scores here again.
Thanks again for running a very informative forum. -
Sorry to revive the thread I just sent you a PM moto to see how you like your laptop, Im thinking about buying the sr7 8700m version.
For anyone else who may know, I was wondering if I would be better off to run XP vs 7, and what the maximum battery life could be not gaming. -
I've had no problems with Win 7 Pro. Use the Vista 64-bit drivers, or find the oldest Model Sager (NP5797) that started using Win 7 drivers. I did that for a few of the components and all is good.
-
On my M570RU-U I OC'ed the T9300 to 2.85 Ghz, while running Prime95 the processor is staying a nice 68°C but my first RAM chip seems to be getting rather hot @ 83°C. What is considered a reasonable maximum temperature for a piece of RAM?
-
I don't know how to check RAM temps. Let me know how and I will let you know my idle and prime95 temps.
At 2.9GHz on my T9300, running prime95, I don't get much higher than 60-62C, without a cooler pad. Are you hitting Fn+1 to increase the heatsink fan speed? -
I used Everest Ultimate to read the RAM temps.
I'm not sure the Fn + 1, or the other Fan Speed functions are currently working on my system. Does one need any particular BIOS version to get this functionality? I'm using the latest revisions on my system, ec .10 and .12 main BIOS.
Has anyone hacked any extra functions into the M570RU BIOS? I was rather disappointed in the dearth of adjustments that were available with the stock Clevo BIOS. I don't think my system is even in ACHI mode, with no option to change the mode in the BIOS. -
I have the same ec .10 and .12 main BIOS.
I didn't know how to control the fans, but read it being discussed, so I asked. I tried the Fn+1 and Fn+3 and they worked for me. Aside from the ec .10, I don't know of anything I did different to get that functionality.
I Googled Everest and it looks promising. I'm not on the M57 tonight, I'm actually building a desktop rig for my dad. I will try to get to it in the next few days and post temp results.
I'm kind of a noob on a lot of things, so I may have some questions for you about Everest. -
Okay, d/l Everest Ultimate (trial version). It look pretty cool.
Where to I go to get RAM temps? -
AHCI mode is horribly mislabeled in the M570RU BIOS, as long as you have the installed OS set to Vista, then you are i AHCI mode (and as long as the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver will install - it craps out if you're in IDE mode)
-
You should be able to find the temp info for the RAM under the Sensors section.
The BIOS version you mentioned earlier in this thread was .12 aSL, mine is just plain .12, no aSL. Where did you get the aSL BIOS version? I think that's what allows for control of the fans.

Trying to multi-quote but nothing comes up. Quote works though. Any ideas how to fix? It could be my work's security setup, but it usually blocks me from some sites entirely, plus I can get quote to work. The bottom of my browser window says;

My responses will be missing some info without multi-quote on the last post.
Is there something I need to enable to multi-quote?
Also, a bit busy at work right now, and weekends are usually busy with kids and such. Not sure when I will be able to reply again. I want to help, and get help at the same time. -

Okay, so I did this the hard way with 2 open tabs, copy/paste etc., but I would still like to know about multi-quote. Other forum automatically "multi-quote" so maybe it isn't what I think it is.
Anyway.....
Then I sent them this link
Newegg.com - Habey HB-MAT5070 ATI Theater HD PCI express Mini Card ATSC/DVB-T/Clear-QAM Digital TV tuner card - Server Accessories
and told them with sales tax and shipping, it would be $100 to get one. I told them to get me one from OCZ/Hypersonic, get me that one, or make it right somehow.
They came back and offered me a $100 credit (to my card) on BOTH barebones laptops I bought. I accepted and got the $200 credit in a few days.
I had made a few small purchases from SVC before (fans and what-not), and got on their emailing list. That is how I found out about the barebones systems in hte first place.
btw - one of them (all decked out and set up - mine have the 8800M GTX) is still for sale -
Again, did this the hard way, but I like to be helpful and I enjoy learning myself.
I also don't recall seeing "OS Installed". I am running Win 7 Pro 64-bit (my desktop is XP so this is my first Vista/Win 7 experience), and I don't seem to have issues.
I thought Intel RST was only needed in RAID applications. I don't recall having it on my M57. Do I needto get it? The M57, of course, supports only 1 HDD.
I'm not sure if I'm in AHCI or IDE. I will check. What I am loosing or risking if in IDE?
Regarding the BIOS functionality, SetFSB can OC the CPU automatically and I have flashed the VBIOS at least a dozen times dialing in the highest GPU OC without BSOD or overheating. I feel there is only one major thing in the BIOS I wish was there that is missing, and that is RAM timings. The RAM automatically set correctly, but setting setting the FSB higher causes BSODs, likely because the RAM is OCed too high. Relaxing the RAM timings might allow for higher CPU OCing. Load temp on the CPU doesn't seem to be an issue.
Thanks all for helping a noob learn and contribute where I can.
Help me setup a barebones M570RU.
