I'm not sure if it's labeled R36 or R35, i got mine replaced some time ago, now i'm not sure if the repair guys switched it with something else. i got one removed today and it says R50 on the left and r36 on the right, i could have sworn it was labeled r35 when i last checked. i have spare boards from my HP that has a pair of r36s and was thinking to exchange them. would this work?

They will be matched as they are the two phases for the CPU so you would not want them with different values.

Hi, it's a v3.0 board. I think I am right in saying that the 860TU wasn't available with the v3.0c mainboard as it was only available in the M860ETU which provided quad core support and 260M graphics - the v3.0A and v3.0c were the M860ETU board.

Sorry if this is wrong, working from memory from 7 years ago! I saw M860TU in the subject of the thread and that's the only board I found to take a photo of.

Those old style mosfets and the toroid on the modem line to reduce noise amuse me.

Hi XMG, it's actually my mistake as i did not indicate it to be the m860ETU and 3.0c, i didn't think they would be different, i know it's really old but other than this chip it's still pretty fast, feels even snappier than my new desktop. I wanna bring it back to life and pass it on to my brother.

    thanks!!

What is wrong with yours exactly? If you have smoked one of them you have likely caused damage to other parts.

Hi Meaker, it's actually the 2nd time i smoked mine (rendering at 3.59ghz for several hours), the last time i got the one on the right side replaced, then it worked fine, it actually worked better and more stable at higher clocks surprisingly, with no other problems. Early this year the other one smoked too, and quite literally while rendering again for several hours. i've been rendering for quite a while since that incident so the replacement part was doing it's job pretty well. Iwas hoping that i'd be able to get both replaced to the higher grade types or equivalent. but this time i won't be doing renderings since i'll be doing that on my desktop. I'm a bit confused why my desktop seems sluggish compared to my sager, considering it's clocked at 4.6, the sager is just so much snappier, it would be good to have 2 systems working side by side for multiple projects.

What SSD does your desktop have? So it's working now but you just want to replace them with higher quality versions? If what you say is true there is no need as far as I can see.

Hi Meaker, sorry it took a while. The desktop now uses the SSD from the laptop, the R50 choke from the sager died last feb but the other one r36 is fine. I am tempted to transfer another pair of r36s from an older motherboard i have but i got worried since i realized the repair guy might have switched that other one also that's why i had to verify from here the correct label of the chokes on my version motherboard V3.0C

Regarding the sluggishness of the desktop regarding loading of programs, snappiness im attributing now to my gpu, since i'm running 4k.; I am still using the stock intel 4600 graphics chip but i am now just waiting for some used k2000 quadro cards (or k2200) to invest in since some of the old cards don't support 4k.

the sager is just so snappy, everyone who sees me work on it always complements me with a " wow, that computer is so fast, no lag whatsoever, what brand is it," or " what are the specs of your laptop?" and i happily say "well it's a Sager and it's actually from 2009, wait til you see what their current lineup can do" hehe.

By the way, what do you think, should i just replace my chokes with a pair of r36s?

Thanks, so much for the reply Meaker.

The intel should still be snappy at 4k, you might want to check if something is being a resource hog or that your SSD is performing normally.

I'd keep the inductors matched to prevent odd loading if possible.

Hi meaker, I just wanna update you on the chokes, I really could not find the right replacement parts without knowing the ratings and values of the chokes themselves, even the supplier could not help me with it, so i took a big gamble and just went ahead to replace the R50 chokes with an identical pair of R36s from an old HP motherboard that i have. For a few hours now no problems whatsoever, just as if nothing happened. I have set it up again with a 3.72 ghz overclock for more than 6 hours now trying to use it normally, with no indications of any problems whatsoever. I never thought it would go as smoothly as that, I am very happy that i just went ahead and did it.

Regarding the snappiness, the sager still feels much smoother and faster except that i had to run it up with the hitachi 5400rpm backup of it's original boot drive (which used to be my ssd).
