    Hey guys

I'm having trouble getting the computer to actually recognize the device exists.

    I did the following:
    1. Inserted my sim card onto the device
    2. Installed the 3g Watcher software which i got from the clevo website
    3. Tried turning on the device by pressing Fn+ - like the manual says, but apparentl that doesn't turn on the device as the hotkey utility does not display any sort of indicator on scree telling me i turned it on, and windows does not recognize the device

    What am i doing wrong?

as far as i know when i got my computer it was going to cost roughly £100/$200 to activate the contract.

if you are trying a normal sim card from a mobile phone then that wont work.

    Thanks for your reply

I think the problem precedes my sim or network contract... windows doesn't recognize the 3.5g module from a hardware point of view. Pressing the key combination stated in the manual doesn't seem to power on the device.

EDIT: my sim card is on a 3g network with a data plan (1.5 mbps down), operating at 850 MHz frequency, which the sierra wireless page says the module supports. Am I mistaken in thinking that's all i need from my operator?

let me try and find the posts from about 18 months ago when we was looking into this.

so the expensive bit you need is a HSDPA
    edit:

    Thanks again for your reply

I think I'm being dense here. Don't I already have the hardware required for this?

I have the 3.5G module installed on the laptop.

Manual says press Fn + - for it to activate, windows will pop up a "found new hardware" wizard.

    I press Fn + -. Nothing happens.

Are you saying, even though I already have the hardware, I have to pay a phone company for them to activate the hardware on MY pc so MY pc can recognize it?

EDIT: The way I think it should be, even if my sim card does not comply with the requirements of the module, is that windows at least should be able to recognize the module even if no sim card is inserted. Am I mistaken?

EDIT2: Just checked with my operator. My 3g line operates at HSDPA 850 MHz, so theoretically it should work!

if you think youve got it loaded then it might just need newer drivers

this is what the user manual says:

think the only ones that can answer this is your OEM supplier.

I went through this a while ago...

After loading the drivers and gong through all the steps to get it running I finally called Sager and then Clevo to get a solution...The conclusion we came to is that even though the card slot is present in the laptop, there are other components that are not included in a normal setup that need to be installed. Although they could not tell me what those components are ,I assume that it is some type of card or secondary component. At that point I just gave up and tethered it with my iPhone....

You need a 3.5G/HSDPA mini-pcie card in the mini pcie slot in order to use the sim card slot. They are 2 separate bits. Look at the service manual in my sig if you want to check anything.
