Hi I need help installing a GTX 675M into a p170hm. It is a dell version, do I need to flash the sager vbios or something? How do I go about this? Also, can I use the same heatsink as for the 6990M? Or do i need a different one?
Thanks

Just curious - did you install the 675m? Or does anyone have any answers to this post please? Any assistance would be greatly helpful.
My Sager np8170hm's 6990m is starting to die (I've had to use the "oven fix" twice so far) so I am looking for a way to get it replaced, as the laptop itself is still a great performer. I've seen some posts saying the 675m is compatible with the p170hm, but I've also seen mention that Dell cards are not compatible in Clevos so I was unsure how to proceed. Unfortunately I am not looking to spend $400+ for something like a 680m or 7970m as I may upgrade in six months anyway, so the 675m seems like a very reasonable option (and I am hoping to avoid another 6990m as they have a reputation for dying).
Thank you for any replies! -
getting a dell card for a clevo machine and using an amd heatsink for an nvidia card are two things i wouldnt generally recommend when doing a gpu upgrade
its indeed the case that dell cards dont work in clevos, only the other way round.
also, ive already seen users brick their brand new gpus by using a heatsink from a different card that did not fit perfectly onto the new one.
@OP: best thing for u to do is give back the gpu and get urself a clevo card. also consider that ull need modded driver .inf files in order to get the 675m running properly in ur HM machine iirc.

You do need to make sure all the pads are perfect as those vrms are under wuite some stress.

Thanks for the replies! I know I have run into confusion (and maybe the OP too) when trying to find cards on eBay because the sellers often list that it's compatible with Clevos even though they state they are being pulled out of Dell/Alienware laptops, such as this eBay auction. Is it safer to assume they are not compatible if it states they are being pulled out of a Dell/Alienware computer?
It's good to know we definitely will need a compatible nVidia heatsink and possibly modded driver. -

People on ebay can be quite clueless sometimes, clevo machines need to stick to clevo cards, usually on a lighter blue PCB.
