for the first one, I'd go with the matte 1680x1050 screen because I don't like reflections on my laptop screen, and I think that any res. higher than that is overkill.

Get the second option if you want more resolution. (Causes more wear on GPU) Both graphics cards are DDr3 but the problem is that the 8700Gt is powerful, but is weaker then the 7950GTX. But the 8700GT is a DX10 card, so will be able to play games in the near future.

Unless you have a specific reason for the higher resolution screen, you will be more comfortable with the lower res.

If you really need the extra power that the 7950 offers, than get it, if not, the 8700 will offer you more future compatibility.

These are questions that only you can answer. ;)

If it were me I'd get the 1920x1200 screen which will give you the option of HD video (you can always drop lower than native resolutions if you plan to game with it), and the 8700 which is DX10 compatible, and will continue to improve as new drivers come out.

Like scoober said you'll have to decide for yourself, but I would go with the more versatile newer technology.

I went for the 1900x1200. If it turns out to be too small, you can always select a different resolution or (better) change the DPI/font-size

the 7950 is generally considered the fastest mobile GFX around at the moment
so if you want to game a lot at the highest settings/reso, get that one
if you're more concernced with heat, power consumption and/or DX10, get the 8700 :)

I believe 1900*1200 pixels is too much for a 17'' display and I don't like those mirroring screens although they increase contrast. But this is a matter of taste and I advice you to go check some displays when in doubt.

    I use a 15,4" 1900x1200 atm.
I don't have any problems with it whatsoever :)

I agree with both of these opinions completely.

The glossy screens really do look so much better, but to me, the almost unavoidable reflections are just not worth the trade off. I hope that the manufacturers will eventually come up with a better technology that can combine the best attributes of both matte and glossy, without the undesired side effects of either.

I'll definitely agree with what John said here. You can't use DirectX 10 under Windows XP so the Go7950GTX is the best choice. Note that it is a significantly faster GPU at higher resolutions.
