Was optimizing windows last night and disabled a whole bunch of crap, all of a sudden today Hotkeys M2.0406, the program that enables the silent mode hotkey has stopped functioning.

The program loads up but it sits in my system tray and has a little red not working sign (circle with a diagonal line through it).

    Here's a few things I did:

    Disabled vista search indexing
turned off these services: Indexing Service, Remote Differential Compression, Windows DFS Replication Service

The other things I did for optimization were minor, such has decreasing the killservice time in the registry, or removing security warnings (note that's all I did in the registry)

Thanks for any help you can be

I did all what you did and my hotkey is still working. I remember once it was disabled but it was working at next restart. Try reinstalling or restart the app. Terminate it first in Task Manager.

I would try to reinstall the hotkey application/driver and see if that works.

Why did you disable these Remote Differential Compression, Windows DFS Replication Service?

Reducing the KillService time ?? why do that? What optimization tool are you using???? If any?

Reduce kill service time to reduce the shutdown time.

I'll try rebooting now, I did try terminating the app in task manager and restarting it, no luck.

let ya know how it goes

Wow, I'm just lazy. The reboot: a fix to 95% of computer problems. Sitting in class though so I didn't want to go through the whole reboot process. (instead somehow I figured I'd be paying more attention posting on a message board than rebooting?). Although with these optimizations that whole process was really quick.

And to answer the second question, I was using the optimization guide in the Windows/OS forum of NBR.

So I suppose I should delete this thread, but maybe someone will want a fix to this same problem:

Hotkey M2.0406 not working, try rebooting.. duh.

LOL. 4 simple basic solutions to problems: Restart the computer, unplug/replug the router, wait for the next day and put it on channel 3 (for the VCR :p)
