Hello all. Nice forum you have here.

My last notebook was an OCZ DIY which hooked me on the barebones concept of notebooks.

Alas, that was 5+ years ago and time has taken its toll on the notebook and it is time to upgrade. When I went looking for barebones notebooks, I saw the field seems to have contracted and I find myself looking at Clevo/Sager.

    1. Are there other high quality manufacturers of barebones notebooks available?
    2. The first reseller I found was R&J which seems to provide fairly barebones notebooks. What other resellers sell these barebones Clevo models? (ie sans processor, memory, drives, OS, etc.)
    3. I understand Sager is a customizer/reseller of Clevo notebooks. Is there a list anywhere that matches Sager model numbers to the Clevo base model it comes from?

    4. My requirements for the system are: at least an i7-4810 of higher option, 980M capable, 4 RAM slots, minimum 2 - preferably 4 mSATA/SATA ports/bays. I woudl also very much like a 3D capable 1080p screen.

Based on these requirements the P170SM looks like a good model, save not finding a 3D screen for it.

For those familiar with Clevo's lineup...what am I missing out with this over their more expensive models? 18" screen, 4k, and multiple video cards are no important to me, but I'd be curious if there arer other goodies I would be missing.

    Thanks for the help!

It appears the only vendor of barebones systems is R&J.

Please elaborate clevo-extreme. My understanding (from my limited research) is that such a screen was not possible with the 980M as it used the integrated graphics controller as the final stage which is limited to 60Hz.

We can custom request the removal of RAM and HDD/SSD but thats about as far into a barebones we can get.
Currently for Sager branded computers there are no 3D screen options available.
