I've got a D900T that's labeled as an Area 51m 7700 only it's confirmed to have a shot hard drive controller, and I can theorize that it has a bad video card as well... Which is an NVidia Geforce Go 6800. Diagnostics says I need to replace the motherboard, but I've only got about 500 bucks to blow on parts.

Anyone got a solution for me?

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

if the motherboard is shot... then you might as well get a D900K motherboard (supports Socket 939 AMD X2 processors) it there instead... since you can finally upgrade to a dual core system. :)

as for videocard and parts, you can get them for decent price at:

    ... or ebay

if you need other parts, contact www.eurocom.com

    Heyo!

Thanks, this website seems to have the parts I need.

A D900K is a compatible mobo for the case? Anything special I need to know? Any suggestions on a tried and true mobo/processor/video card format for a scrap rebuild?

D900K will fit right in there perfectly.

...although I forgot to check something...

which power adapter do you have.... if its the first revision... then it will not work with the new revision D900T or D900K boards.

    Looks like this:

if you have a different looking power adapter, then you will need to replace that as well.... unless if you get the early revision D900T boards.

I have the one in the photograph...I think...Maybe a bit longer but that pic might be an obtuse resolution.

    Model: #0405B20220
    Input: 100-240V
    Output: 20V

yeah, you have the newer one. :)

so now you can get which ever motherboard and it should work fine.

granted that if you get the D900K motherboard... you will need to get a new CPU (AMD Socket 939) and new memory (DDR-400 PC3200 SO-DIMM)

I guess I should see a sizeable performance boost as well...hm?

Should I keep the old GPU?

for CPU.... you will definitely get at least twice as good as performance over the single core P4's.... even by just getting the cheapest of AMD X2's (the Athlon X2 3800+)

as for GPU, you can just stick with the old one to save money... these videocard modules are quite expensive.

If you can, get the 7800 or 7900 since they have SM3.0 support... where the 6800 did not.

But if you do not game much, then stick with the 6800.

The old one ran Morrowind in high res settings liquid smooth.

Guess we aren't using that as a benchmark anymore, eh? Heh heh heh.

If you have $500 to spend... why not save it for another system that would be more future proof for performance and upgrades.

... or you can just get the barebones of a nice mid-range gaming notebook for under $500.

A Nvidia 9600M GT will definitely beat out your old Nvidia 6800. ;)

And you can install your RAM and HDD in there with no issues... just need to get a CPU.
