Hello, I'm trying a game on Directx 11 and while playing I'm getting very high temperatures on my computer. In order to measure it I use the Windows widget GPU Observer.

The things is that according to the widget I get

94 degrees Celsius with GPU fan speed at 30% @ 900 MHz (out of 900 MHz)

what I find strange, along with the hight temperature, is that GPU fan is working only at 30%. (according to GPU Observer)

Is there a way to control GPU fan speed? is that normal? maybe the GPU Observer widget is not working right and I should check with another app?

    thanks!

Your temps are getting high, but still not to dangerous levels. Ideally, you want to stay under 90C, but so long as they're under 95C it's not too much to be worried about since the 6990m runs quite hot. You can bump the fans to full speed with FN+1 (not F1). There is no in-between mode though- it's either full speed or auto.

We also stress cleaning out the computer. If you never have, open up the bottom of the computer and blow out the vents with a can of compressed air. Also do it outside as you're gonna send dust flying everywhere. Make sure the vents, heat transfer pipes, fans, and anything else you can clear are blown out to get rid of any dust that's built up.

    ^^

I cant stress this enough as an owner of a 8170 - if you are still getting high temps clean your fans out. Its fairly quick to do and will save you a bunch of head ache

I have never opened the computer, but it's not even 1 year old yet :) could it be that dirty already?

By the way I asked about Bios for the computer on the Bios Thread, I seem to have a P170HMx instead of the more common P170HM, anyone has that same model?

Without a doubt I'm certain that, yes, it would be that dirty.

Take a look at your heatsinks while you are blowing them out and note how narrow the gaps are between the fins. They could get plugged up easily. This is doubly true if you have pets.

My Antec 1200 desktop has to be blown out on a near weekly basis with 4 furry animals running around, plus living in a desert. :)

laptops need cleaning out every few months as dirt and dust builds up very quickly. remove base plate and if you have a can of compressed air blow around the vents and fans.

also supposed to hold the fans when blasting them. Makes sure you get em clean and prevents possible damage
