    Hello guy.
I was wandering how this temps looks. Is this normal during 3D rendering? Support from xotic said its totaly normal unleas pc shuts down.

86C is on the warmer side but if that's where it maxes out, you're fine.

It appears it wasnt fine. Laptop is officialy BANANA. Every time I try to start it he start runing fans like crazy and shut down after boot. When trying to go to BIOS he start beeping and shut down. So much about 86c is safe

Sounds like GPU failure. The CPU is designed to withstand temperatures up to 95C at which point it throttles the core. 86C is definitely within spec so something else has occurred. Contact your reseller for an RMA.

I appreciate your help pat. I am in communication with Tanner few days allready. I done all that he sugested. Clean vents, change termal paste on cpu and gpu.... It just doesnt do. Its beeping, turning off.... Trying to contact DHL or Fedeex to see rates. Not satisfied with sager at all. Sound, display, heat, build quality. Cant be compared to alianware. I am doing a lot of rendering in 3D Maya. I need something hard core. If I get to fix him probably will try to sell him together with alianware, and buy new alianware.

I think Alienware makes fine laptops. They're quite comparable to Clevo/Sager systems when comparing apples to apples. It's is tragic that the system let you down, in any case; typically this model does not suffer high temps or have technical issues. Here's to hoping all is ironed out soon!

Looks like GPU failure... Bad luck but if your GPU goes past 80C, that's when you stop immediately and repaste... Those temps probably killed it... Also BGA lottery wasn't in your favour sadly..

It wasn't anything to do with the BGA lottery. MXM cards are BGA just with a removable board. There is no such thing as the BGA lottery, the system just failed.

It's not Clevo that is the problem here, you just got unlucky. If you know what you're doing, you can have max temps of 60c on CPU + GPU like I have.

Well it appears that temps where deadly for motherboard. Motherboard died. So much about professionals on this forum. I had to send it to RMA in USA. Guess what? I got call from fedex today and they told me sager sent laptop as new one with value of 1800$. Tax to be collected 300$. I paid for him 1450$ after all trouble and fixing he can't be more than 1000$ but for sager used ones are more expensive than new. Shipping+tax 600$. So basically laptop cost me 2050$.
I am asking WHAT is wrong with Sager brain!
What is wrong with Clevo motherboards!
What is wrong with tehnical team of xotic!
Your ****ing around cost me 600$
Thank you very much xotic and sager. NEVER AGAIN ANY BUSINESS WITH YOU.
Advice for all. Better pay a bit more for good branded product then pay much more later.

Just show the proof of purchase/repair to the tax man and original vat receipt and you can claim it back. I believe you have to pay tax on incoming returns and claim it back usually.

Those are some bold claims of knowing what caused the failure, do you have proof or are you just assuming?

All boards have a failure rate, some of the bigger shops actually post it for different devices, I am sorry you got unlucky but that's why we supply the machines with a warranty. It's also the risk of importing the machine with regards to the cost of sending it back.

Hopefully you don't run into any more issues for now and claiming the tax back is fairly quick.

Yeah, I don't think its that simple everywhere. Especially when you start dealing with couriers and potentially corrupt local authorities.

For example, when we had machine components shipped to and from certain south american countries, customs and tariffs were a nightmare despite the fact that these parts were repairs under contract with us, and labelled accordingly.

Another fun fact, UPS shipped us a package once, collected their whatever made up fees, when we opened it, it was clear that the box was destroyed in transit (contents missing), and UPS just put some junk in the box, repacked it and went on to charge us for the privilege of being extorted by them. (Fresh UPS box and label was the giveaway).

In this case, I think its not the service that he's mad about, its the shipping, handling, customs, tax man. All of which can potentially screw him since its probably the wild west down there. (Just speaking from experience here, no offence intended).

Whats wrong with just shipping him the motherboard? You could easily declare the component with partial value of the machine.

Edit- Also, "do you have proof or are you just assuming?"... Really? One of your customers are pissed off, calling him a liar isn't exactly helping your case here. Especially brand loyalty.

I contact Fedex many times. They told me Tax is not refundable because item was send as new one. It is send as I just purchase it from USA. I send it to you as used ready for repair. What was the problem to send it back as used? Even if you didn't want put as new one why is the price 1800$ if new is 1450$?
You are calling mew Liar? Listen to Mr.. Sager. I am not computer guru but I possess few gaming laptops cues of nature of my job. There mother board ever never even reached 75c. On this model it was going as high as 85-90c. I entrusted my money and my job in to your product instead of buying Alianware or asus.... And this is how you resolve problems that your product and your staff made. Good JOB

85C is within the manufacturers tolerances on the chips, it's unlikely to be the cause of your issue.

You would not refund the tax from fedex but your government giving them proof. Fedex will be forced to collect it initially yes.

For the shipping, you should have received a commercial invoice for the repair, showing it isn't new. Did you receive that at all? If not, let me or Tanner know and we will see what we can do to get that to Fedex. With an invoice like that, they can see it is a repair, and not a new purchase, and changing the tax situation. Just reach out to us and we'll do what we can to help.

As for the computer itself, it wasn't the motherboard that was bad itself. There was a sensor on the motherboard that determines temperature that had failed, not the whole motherboard. It was causing the fans to not spin up, and temperatures were going higher causing the issues.

Again, I apologize there was an issue with the system. We try to test everything as much as possible, but we can't prevent every part from failing at some point. But if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

There was no additional papers neither in side neither out side. Laptop was packed in box that was previously used buy other machine. It has stamps with configuration, where is mate, who sold it to me. On the invoice is stated that taxes are not refundable and undeclarable.

So everyone here needs to take a breather. jackynikola, Im sure XoticPC would be happy to resend the paperwork seeing how they're trying to work with you on this. It seems to me that FedEx either 1. has no clue about any of this (which they usually don't at the consumer level) or 2. local FedEx is trying to clean you out.

@XoticPC, does it absolutely have to be FedEx? They are clearly pulling something fishy here, can jackynikola not use registered and insured postal service?

@Meaker, appreciate the honesty and your input is valued as always, but... a bit more diplomacy at this point is, well... more valued.

Yeah, I'll see about getting the proper paperwork sent over to either you or Fedex about it.

I don't think Fedex is trying to pull anything, it sounds like they just think it is a purchase and not a warranty repair, in which case they would try to collect the appropriate taxes/fees.

80s C aren't ideal maybe, but still with working temperatures. It isn't going to melt anything at that temperature. The processor would throttle itself to keep it from getting up higher in temperatures to stay under a certain threshold (low 100s or high 90s, IIRC).

I would say keep monitoring it, but 80s C are fine.

@jackynikola Out of curiosity, whats the ambient temperature there? Cause there are limits to what heat sinks and fans can do, cause you know, laws of thermodynamics and all.

To be honest, none of my Dell Precision Mobile WS' run cooler than 85 degrees when its hotter than ~25C at full load. If the computational load is high, and the air is hot, the temperatures you're seeing would be perfectly normal.

Anything over a 20-22C ambient range is going to have a dramatic increase on temps. Consider a laptop cooler like the Cooler Master U3

As long as it doesn't go to 90 degrees, it should be fine. Also, if you make a living with your computer, you should consider investing in workstation grade equipment the next time you buy a computer. Quadro cards are better tuned for rendering applications anyways.

If I remember correctly, there were a lot of complaints about Alienware overheating, then Dell pushed a BIOS patch which effectively down clocked the GPU forcing it to be cool at the cost of performance.

It's not Sager. These new processors are molten lava. Anything after Ivy Bridge (Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake) has been a hot mess. My desktop 4790K hits 80C with a dual fan liquid cooling solution if I push it to the max... Thats a desktop with cooling a laptop can only dream of.

80C with AVX instructions, usually only 65-75 with a regular full load and my average is like 55C. Idle is 40C so I could probably do with a repaste but it's not that bad. If I was on air... *shudder*

Keep in mind my CPU is running 4.4GHz all four cores at a measly 1.2 volts as well and still heating up like that. If you want to keep the heat down, undervolt your chip (most are stable at -70 or -80) and cut your turbo multi. You'd be amazed how much a 100-200MHz clock bump can increase voltage and temps while having a neglible real performance impact except in benchmarks.

Make sure you force max fans when the machine is under a heavy load using FN+1 - the fans NEVER hit their max speed otherwise.

That was bigest problem I had. Fans doesnt go more then 70%. So if I leave rendering for 10h that means fans need to run like crazy all that time. Someon told me that can damage them.

You will have to replace any fan that's running 24/7 no matter the speed but fans are cheap while your whole machine is not. The fans don't just cool your video and CPU, they bring much needed air circulation to the other components as well. I'd rather have to replace a fan.

You can also save them most of the time with machine oil or something similar to get them going again. The fans themselves are fine, it's the lubrication that wears out. Cleve actually recommends max fans for full load... You should even have a max fan option in the Clevo control center. The only reason they don't hit max by default is because of how loud they are. Clevo chose higher temps over louder noise but gives you the option to reverse that trade off manually as needed.

You are speaking truth. To be exact. Much needed truth.
