This is my 5th post but I still can't PM. Can you just post the solution here? I'd rather not give my email out on a public forum. Thanks

I tried the p150HM (EC V 1.00.13) also for my p170hm. It was working, but then my left USB 2.0 Port was not working any more (the right one and the USB 3.0 Ports still working).
Hint: try the solution from LightningPL (Private Message to him - newbies only can send messages after 5 posts to the forum and then waiting one day).

They use the same motherboard with slight variations on connectors soldered on and power circuitry.

    Hello

    It's too loud in idle.
Is it worth changing heatsinks or fans after 2 years of usage?
I think it will make only slight change or won't do any at all but I'd appriciate it if someone who knows the answer could give me a tip.

Unless temps have spiked then cleaning and repasting can help but the fans and heatsink being replaced won't help.

So after replacing mobo, it will be time for learning about BIOS and fan table.
    Ok. Thx for advice.

The fan table is embedded in the keyboard controller and is not really accessible.

Hello again. Do u think its possible to install a manual fan controller to the fan cables ? And control the speed that way.

I game heavily on my p170hm and fan noise is not an issue.
If you have good paste like ICD7 you should not have any issues.

    My CPU at idle 28-38C
    My GPU at idle 32C

If you are having temps greater than this at idle then repaste and do a clean out of coolers.
    Good luck :)

You could just make the ec panic as they are 3 pin fans.

Well ive checked my temps now and they are kinda high.

    GPU at idle is 50C
    CPU at idle is 40C

If you have antivirus or other background tasks running, that may not necessarilly be 'bad'.

See if there's any utilization percentages to either the GPU and/or CPU.

My CPU tends to go from 38-44c and my GPU goes from 38-50c when sitting 'idle' but I have a various bunch of background programs running.

Yes I would check that still since it's quite high, even with a number of background tasks the GPU should be a bit cooler.

Agreed on that. I have the 8258-S with the 880M, and right now my GPU is averaging around 43c or so and it's with firefox and various videos running in the background.

So 50c is pretty high for an 'unused' GPU.

That's different, your machine has optimus so the GPU can sleep/idle in a deeper state.

A Q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol usually works well. You can also cut the Q-tip handle at an angle to create a scraping edge for the hard to get off paste.

Cleaning up non conductive/capacitive paste is purely cosmetic.

My old Asus G51 sounded like a turbine engine even idle, and reputedly the only semi-quiet gaming laptops are those thin models like the razors or the like.

And with the thin profile and such high end components inside, you can be fairly rest assured that for long-term gaming, they'll be overheating like hell.

I think the new Clevos, for the power they have and the cooling they provide are remarkably quiet, all considering.

Hi, had same issue. If you go to settings there is an option for power saving. Click open the option and establish new selection. Make sure you save changes. Your computer should now be whisper quiet.

Well the computer went broke after the person bought it from me.

It seemed to be the gpu that broke. I made a thread about it somewhere on this forum but cant refind it.

Something mentioned about baking the gpu but i cant find the thread about how to do it.

    Thanks !

This is what i have done:

    - Clean installation of windows 8.1. Allso tryed the harddrive in another computer.
    - Baked the gpu in the oven. 200c for about 12 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vf6...m3MsOQ&index=1
After i baked the gpu windows worked fine for a few minutes. But then screen just went blue,
    - Ran windows 8 memory test. I do not know the result because it just sent me to a black screen after test was done.
    - Ran startup repair. I do not know the result because it just sent me to a black screen after test was done.
    - Checked so that the fans and temps are ok.
    - I have allso started windows i failsafe mode and it works just fine. Picture good and all in that mode.

    What i have not done:

    - I have not baked the motherboard.
    - I have not tryed to use an external screen. I do not have an external screen. And i guess theres no problem with the screen as i dont get bad screen in failsafe mode.
    - I have not flashed the bios or vbios at this time. Alltho ive done that about 6 months ago.
    - I have not stresstested the cpu. Is that a way of doing that thru usb/cd ?

I got a P150HM, I'm not sure how it compares to the P170HM, but your temps seem really good compared to my idle ones.

I wonder how much a repaste would help?!

The 170 series has a better cpu block (copper vs aluminium) and idle temperatures will depend a lot on ambient temps, how clean the heatsink is, what chips are in the machines etc.

I have good news I share unofficial EC firmware for everybody to our CLEVO P170HM, it's resolving loud fans problem.
I don't take any responsibility if you brick your machine by flashing with this EC firmware

With this new EC frmware 1.00.09c-TEST and it's working very good, try it.
Right now my P170HM is much more quiter than before.
