Hey everyone. I have a Dell U2711 monitor that supports up to 2560x1440 resolution. When hooking the NP9150 up to it via HDMI, is there any way to get it to set to that resolution?
I tried setting it manually in the Intel graphics properties and it tells me that the resolution exceeds maximum badwidth capacity.
What is the fix for this? My friend has an alienware and seems to be able to increase the resolution to 2560x1440 on an external monitor.

HDMI is internally limited to 1080p on the Dell to U2711. You'll need Dual link DVI or display port. Since our laptops support displayport natively, I highly suggest that. I don't believe our laptops support Dual link DVI, so DP is your only option. -
Hmm, well... that kind of sucks. The reason I was using HDMI was because I have the laptop connected to my surround sound first.
Is it possible to pass the audio only using HDMI and pass the video to the monitor using displayport? -
I'm fairly certain you can do that with nvidia desktop cards, whether intel supports it or not I'm not sure. Does your receiver come up as a playback device in sound playback? I would think it should work, you could always test it right now at a lower resolution via dvi and see if you can still pass sound via hdmi.

I do have a DAC, and tried to use the SPDIF with the DAC to send the signal to the optical jack of the receiver but I cant seem to get the sound to play no matter what settings I try.
*Edit*
Wow, I give up. As of this morning it magically is giving me the same bandwidth error over dual link DVI even though it was working fine last night. Even last night when I had it working, I couldnt set any games above 1080p anyway. -
HDMI 1.3 an do up to 2560x1600 over single link at 60 Hz. If the LCD doesn't have HDMI 1.3 then you will need a dual link cable an dual link capability from both laptop and LCD.

@gares - Can you pass audio to the receiver via HDMI and use your laptop screen only? Another option is a USB audio device (Creative makes a decent one for 50-70 bucks) and use the optical audio from that.
Higher resolution to external monitor?
