Whats the Highest Stable Duelcore Overclock some ones achived on the M860tu.. and what processor/temps/software did they use to achive it!..

winner takes my heart and mind!

I hope to squeeze all i can out of my little M860tu

impressive Quadcore clocks also welcome but my Revision 3 mobo cant suport them :_(

    P8600.. but willing to change..

i heared that some people got stable duels runing at 3.6 gigs on a MSi...

wondering if my M860tu can handle such impressive overclocks..

I am aware that GPU and CPU cant be Oced effectivly at the same time due to FSB limitations...

Beacuse my main intention is to play World of Warcraft atm... i only need the best Duelcore performance possible..

Any records.. prob hard to find as it seems most of the bros on here have Quads now.

edit: would the T9900 be the best Duelcore option... ?... do you think there will be no more duelcore revisions?

the P8600 can overclock to 3ghz.
    proof:
    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=566462

    what chipset do you have?

do you have options in the BIOS to overclock the FSB?
If you dont then you could use setfsb to overclock the FSB. Also it's possible to modify the PLL (clock generator) to overclock the FSB. I can help you with that if you want.

To keep your ram stable after a high OC of the FSB you should use SPDtool or thaiphoon burner to flash your ram to a lower frequency or higher timmings (unless you can do it in the BIOS).

i dont think the M860tu has Bios options to overclock the FSB.. it must be done with software.. which in turn makes the GPU stressed?..

i ahve a 9800m GT... and only intersted in World of Warcraft performance so im willing to even downclock the GPU to make it more stable while i overclock the FSB via software which stresses the GPU via no split Sistem buss?

    yerr

if i can get this P8600 to 3gigs in a M860tu thats great.. but in setfsb i can only get it upto 2.6..... as its not fully suported by setfsb.

im guessing your not a M860tu owner?... quite sure the only options we have are Software based FSB overclocks..

yes, but I do know how to overclock notebooks, I overclcked my T7300 (2ghz stock) to 2.72ghz. I had to modify the PLL (simple hardware mod), so that I could use setfsb.
here is how I did it:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=393027

nope, you can overclock the fsb to exactly 333mhz with a simple PLL mod.
Please tell me your PLL and I wil give you more details on how to do it :)

ahh like a solder mod.. coool...

how do i work out my PLL?

will a P8600 overclock as high as a T9900... not sure if i should upgrade my CPU first.. my resseller will prob give me a extended warrenty if i do.

    PLL = clock generator

what is the clock generator you select in setfsb?

the T9900 is 3.06ghz stock (i think). The maximum you could overclock the P8600 would be 2.99ghz (333mhz fsb * 9).

The working PLL with SetFSB for the M860TU is "RTM876-660", the actual PLL is "ICS9LPR395".

I cannot find the datasheet for ICS9LPR395.

the closest I can find is ICS9LPR501.
If the chips are simmilar (they should be) then here is a picture of the frequency select table (found on page1):

you would need to change the logic of pin 62 from 0 to 1 to get a 333mhz FSB.

here is a pic of the power groups table (found on page 6):

Is there any chance anyone can check if there is a track comming off pin 62 that leads to a resistor?

Basically it's as easy as disconnecting pin 62 from GND and connecting it to VDD.
The problem is if pin 62 is not connected to a resistor then it becomes difficult to disconnect pin 62 from GND.

Im not to confident with the M860tu mobo hardware Kaltmond do you know if its possible?.

Before i look into this any more its not CPU specific is it?... like if i mod it to run at 333 (which is the highest... why not 400?)

if i then upgrade to a T9900 which is a 11.5 Multi right?...
    does that mean i could clock a T9900 at like 3829.5 ... at 333?

why not 11.5x400 at 4600mghz lloll

but yer 333 wize my options will be

    P8600 333 @ 2997
    T9900 333 @ 3829.5

But will the T9900 actualy run at 3.8 easy..? if not i could go with a cheaper processor and get the highest possible overclock out of any Duelcore option.. thats what i want to find out from this thread.

the T9900 has the highest Multi out of all processors for the M860tu right?.... 3829.5 really the highest theoretical clock i could get? ... if so im quite happy with that and will set that as my goal.. :p unless the 4600mghz 400fsb is not possible ^_^

Will this hardware mod act sim to Setfsb and make my GPU more unstable adn not able to OC due to Boosted fsb/sistembuss?

you could, but it would take a large voltmod and some very stable ram.
Also the thing would need water cooling (and I'm not even talking about 4600mhz).

But you're right, it is not CPU specific.

ahk see yer.. i dont want any custom cooling just stock cooling with mabye a GPU underclock/volt if that helps keep the CPU cool...

I hope i can find some info on the most stable Duelcore M860tu stock cooling overclock...

if its like 3.3 or 3.6 or some thing... then i can work out what processor to get to get right?

take a look at the overclocking world record database:
    http://www.ripping.org/database.php?act=records

the site takes a while to load (bad server) but it has a lot of CPU overclock records. It includes the CPUz submissions so you can see what FSB and what multi is used. also the voltage and ram frequency and timmings.

The T9600 goes to 3.3ghz. there is no record for the T9900 on that site.

    @kaltmod, didn't you do the same mod (266 -> 333mhz)?
    how did you do it?
was there a resistor connected to the pin?

So you've never done a 266 to 333mhz PLL mod?

Because I'm not sure what would be best to use as the VDD source.

that record is not in a M860tu thou... still not sure what the highest stable M860tu processor/overclock is...

will T9900 get the best performance regardless... ?

if i can try for 4gigs i will.. just yer.. what processor should i get for OCing

Don`t know about Duelcore, for my Quadcore the default Vcore is not enough, i raised nearly 0.1V to get it relative stable. And Heathkidd i think you can give up T9900/X9100, 3.8G is fast impossible to get, maybe boot into windows and post a CPU-Z no problem, but if bench then only BSOD is there........

It becomes much more difficult to overclock when you begin to approach the 4GHz barrier. The system will be gobbling power and outputting a lot of heat near that speed.
