I was just looking at power notebooks and then double checked on xoticpc and they are knocking $600 off the np5793 (orand or silver trim)

Holy crap, it was all I could do not to pull out the credit card and I don't even want to buy a notebook right now.

Any idea what this is about? Are they discontinuing the model or are they about to make a significant change to the system and need to clear out stock?

    What might that change be?

The 5793 was originally discontinued around early July when the new Montevina Laptops were released. This is a special deal that will last only while supplies last, as this is a unique arrangement between Sager and Clevo to deplete remaining inventory. The NP5796 is what replaced this model and added the following main features:
    1. ESATA
    2. HDMI
    3. Montevina Processor (slightly faster FSB)
    4. DDR3 800MHz Ram (vs. DDR2 667 on 5793)
    5. Video Card Options

IMHO the lack of the above is well worth the $600 in savings :)

The 5793 has already been upgraded, it’s called the 5796.

Why worry about what is around the corner, when they are offering a notebook with T8300, 320GB 7200RPM HDD, BluRay Drive, FingerPrint Reader, WebCam and Bluetooth well under cost?

I'm sure they need to clear the stock of the old, that is always the case with everything. Only this time, they are throwing a lot with the old for the same clearance price.

    Nice!

Then we should expect the 9262 to drop in price, since it doesn't have those things you claim to be worth $600 more for.

I surely wish that were the case. :) We can only hope this might happen when the 9262 replacement is released. ;)

I was so excited I skipped over the np5793 v np5796--still, a fabtabulous deal. I know a guy who bought this laptop tricked out for about for $2200 and I don't think it had blue ray

Now, because I'm so weaselly, should I, or should I not, be reading between those lines, particularly that second sentence? If so, how much should I be reading into them? :D

Unfortunately there is no gray area in my statement from what I know at this time. Sorry Shyster, wish there was more between the lines. ;)

We all wish there was more between the lines, with it going up in price and all now that the GT is no longer available.

    *sigh*

I hadn't realized that there's no HDMI port on the 5793 :( ...oh well, I'm still thrilled with my purchase. I would be even more thrilled if it shipped today.

That price is so good, I was contemplating ordering one, but I'm afraid it would be too heavy to carry each day to class :(

It stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. I think most people use it for connecting their laptop up to a HD TV or a high end monitor. I'm just using a DVI-HDMI cable. Looks great on my 46'.

Heres more info on HDMI if you want.

So you don't need an hdmi port to watch blue-ray on a hdtv?

No you don't. You can even use VGA output to get to the 1080P resolution. The only difference is the signal wouldn't be digital. Also DVI port can be hooked up to the HDMI input of the TV via seperate cable.

I'm actually waiting for such luxury PC companies to drop prices simply to keep up with the market. People can't afford 3k laptops when they're losing that much in a DAY!!!.... i would assume in a market where consumer spending is at a long time low, companies that sell what i would consider luxury items get hit the hardest, i.e. powernotebooks,xotic,sager....

Yep, I always say I'd rather have a laptop I got a heck of deal on go obsolete than one I paid an arm and leg for :D
