After getting it last year. It was absolutely FILTHY!! I had no idea it would have so much dust. I used some compressed air and tweezers to remove dust clumps. No joke, I had 6 or 7 clumps of dust over 1/4 inch in diameter. It was disgusting. I wondered why it had been running hot (I just thought it was in a bad location), but now I know why, and so far it is much, much cooler.

So just a reminder to everyone, make sure you clean your 9262 at least every 3 months to keep it from becoming disgusting!

I know! I can't believe I didn't think to take pictures. I think I was so shocked at how filthy it was that I forgot about everything except getting it clean. I had my roommate and friend watching, and they were speechless.

A friend of mine used compressed air to clean the vents, and instead pushed one big chunk of dust back into the cooler. In result, we had to spend about 2 hours taking his dv8000 apart, because the fan was not spinning, causing the system to overheat and shut down instantly. One of the stupidest laptop designs I have ever seen - you need to take the whole system to little pieces just to get to the fan & cpu =)))

Well, all the laptops i have owned would allow easy access to the fan and cpu. Same, you say? =)))

I just took the rear fan cover off, and I was able to get rid of all of the big chunks with some tweezers. I would spray the air through the vents then pluck them right out of the fan.

Same with at least one _Sony, the VAIO Z1A I have. :( I've taken it apart so many times now I think I could do it blindfolded.

For those with access to "shop" compressed air, all compressed air is not alike. Most commercial compressors have traces of oils in the air, this is intentional and is intended to help maintain and extend the life of the shop tools. These traces of oil in a Computer help stick dust to components.

Additionally, most shop air sources also contain significant levels of water, and again are not healthy for Computers.

Dryers are typically installed inline on compressed air lines used for high quality air brushing and spray painting, so that would be the "safest" available, cheap source for volumes of compressed air that could be used for cleaning Electronic components.

I got this basic 2-gallon air compressor two Black Friday's ago. :)

I use it exclusively for desktop and computer cleaning... works perfect... to prevent moisture I make sure the air tank is empty until the next use.

I cleaned out my np5793 after 7 months of ownership because a fan was making a strange noise. I had pretty much the same experience as you. That was a little over a month ago, and I'm thinking of getting ready to clean it out again lol

Fry's has 3 cans of compressed air for only $10. Best deal ever. All of my electronics are now spotless. I just wish I could clean out the interrior of my PS3 without voiding the warranty, because I have a hunch it is filthy.

Also after 2 days of being clean my baby is barely even warm after being on constantly since then. Does anyone know if there's a Windows/Google Sidebar gadget that shows internal temps? Having to open HWMonitor each time is annoying.

I will update my RivaTuner guide later ... stay tuned. :)

I do a full system cleaning (remove each of the fans and dust them out, then get a Qtip and remove the dust on each of the fan blades of every fan) on the first Sunday of every month. Even after 30 days, it is quite surprising how dusty/dirty it gets. Must be the cat. Bloody cat...

Every laptop accumulates dust. Lenovo owners just think they have some Godly laptop.
Even fanless laptops acumulate dust, let alone the ones with fans...

I can't shave my cat. He just sheds like crazy. He also doesn't come near me when using the laptop, and yet it still gets very dirty. I don't mind though. Every time I take apart the NP9262 to clean it, I'm always reminded of just how brilliant the cooling system is. Truly a wonder how none of the components overheat and die, even when the fans are dirty.

my m860tu has gotten quite hotter over the past 5 months of use.. however when i opened it up to my suprize i found little to no dust in the heatskin fan area... mabye its designed better than the fans blow dust out rather than encourage build up..

ive put my increase in temps down to Driver changes.

the 9262 has 3 fans doesnt it..? quite alot of potential dust build up compared to the single fan of the m860tu.. hummm thank god my house is SOOOO dusty it would prob kill a 9262 in a nomber of weeks.

I always use a vacuum on my fans and heatsinks - never compressed air (bad stuff happens with compressed air...). The first time I cleaned one of my old dells ages ago (I think it was after five months or so) I found this 1.5inch round fuzz ball coiled around my fans (so that's why my laptop's been shutting down! -.-).

Anyone know if there's a guide for cleaning the 5793? I've never even opened my laptop since I've got it and I'm sure it's really dirty. I want to make sure I do it right without screwing anything up.
