Horrible 7970M utilization after last beta, is it just me?

Ive been doing a recent deep dive into a 5 month Clevo P170EM purchase to see if everything is working fine just before big game month hits us (BF4, COD, FM14, Batman etc). Updated all system drivers, cleaned out all dust, tape trick to level fan/heat sink and everything seems ready and prepped. For the first time in the history of owning the Clevo I decided to run a system usage check to make sure no bottlenecks buy running RivaTuna OSD with HWiNFO64.

Started up BF3 and this is what i get at peak:



GPU - 47% (highest it got to was 52%)
FPS - 38 (ranges from 35-60)

Pretty shocking I must admit so dont know what to think here. I recently updated to the lasted beta (AMD_Catalyst_13.11_Mobility_BetaV1) so maybe thats it but is it my system or Bf3 being so badly utilised with the enduro?

My system is 7970M - 3630QM 2.4GHZ - 8GB Crosshair - 500GB SSD

Tried Skyrim and the results were a constant 60FPS (v-sync on) but only 55% usage but i guess this makes sense if the FPS is running to limit of the 60FPS.

Ok went back to 13.9 and getting 92% usage and FPS is up there again, Beta 13.11 are broke for bf3. Shame because i wanted them for bf4 ! So one or the other at the moment which is a shame

 

what is your fps now in bf3? and settings set on?

 

With 1920x1080:

Ultra - 45-65
High - 50-70
Med - 60-85
Low - 65 - 105

Lot less stuttering and frame rate drop is so much less noticeable. Though FPS is quite varied in this game, esp on MP.

 

Did you try 13.10 beta 2 ? I have that drivers and my bf3 runs so good on ultra settings 1080p without AA. My fps in team deathmatch 16,24,32 players my fps in noshahr canals is 60 - 90, i think average is between 60 - 70. Try that beta driver and see if perform better for you too ! 13.11 have problems.

I'm also using the 13.10 beta 2 driver which was released specially for bf4 beta and everything is working fine. BF 3 multi runs perfect. The 13.11 driver was ment to support the new line of GPU's - R7 and R9.

 

13.10b2 seems smoother when playing - but im getting anything from 40-90 lol
I guess its so hard to judge this game with the different parameters (maps, players etc etc). It seems stable now so i guess thats the main thing, maybe i should i just turn off FPS benchmarking and get on with playing

 

I think the 13.11 is more focusing on the new R9 products to get them out the door, they may actually be based on a slightly older build.

 

Just tried Crysis 3 and only getting 50% usage, is this game know for poor utilization?

 

Are you running it in DX11 mode?

 

Er not sure... how do i tell? Ive got Dx11 on my system..

 

Is it running the dx11 high res texture pack?

 

How would i tell?

 

go to the game configuration settings page. It's the place where you set the resolution of the game.

 

If not you can download it and apply it.
