Is anyone getting choppy video playback in full screen. It does not matter where itunes, web, netflix. It is really choppy. I have set them all to use the 7970m but still very choppy. At this point I almost want to return the laptop to get the 680m. $300 would be worth it if the graphics card was stable.

i never tried 7970m with videos instead the intel HD4000 handles perfectly with itunes movie trailers at 1080 and youtube 4k. in the mean time amd has a new decoder comes with 12.7 beta driver have a try if you insist to use 7970m for videos.

Sounds like a codec issue to me.

It's smooth here. It's not the hardware almost certain, performance wise HD video playback is going to be like a 3-5% load on this card. It's going to be something stupid like windows indexing service in background, or some other weird software issues going on. Also try setting video playback buffers to high levels within your player(s).

In general, try shutting down some services/programs in the background and see what fixes it.

I tried switching over to power saving mood aka use the intel card, it is better but still slow. Is there any codec I need to download? I have never had a problem with video playback on my desktop.

You can try the k-lite codec pack or the CCC community codec pack, only install one of these though, try one and if it doesn't work, uninstall it and try the other, or try a different media player, i very highly recommend kmplayer, it plays everything and smoothly and it is great for series because it automatically searches a folder for similar titles and makes play lists by itself.

Tired all that and nothing. It is almost like it can't keep up with the action. Whenever people start to movie it lags. I think at this point I am going to give my re-seller a call, and see about returning the laptop. I have never in my life experienced so many problems with a PC in so little time. I have only had it 2 days and it has been a nightmare. Nothing seems to work like it should with the graphics power I have in this laptop. Vuman619 do you have your 680m yet? Any problems with it?

I wish I had my 680m... haha; but I hope the 680m won't have any of these issues either. Should have results up soon though!

Yeah I debating if I should send it back and get the 680m but if it is the processor that is bad it will not help me. Anyone know what the return policy is? Will they scrap the whole thing or would they just swap out the 7970m for the 680m?

This doesn't sound like a hardware issue. You might want to list the issues you've had and the troubleshooting you've done. I see from earlier posts you were getting the expected scores in 3dmark11 and good FPS in games.

Actual gaming is pretty good. My main problem is hd video play back anywhere. Web, iTunes, etc. I bought the laptop to watch/ game on my tv thru the hdmi. The video just lags it is like it can't keep up? People move slower than they should, it is not smooth at all. Other users have said the intel card can handle the hd video but it seems to struggle. I tried setting iTunes to use the 7970m but it is actually much worse.

Ok the first issue I had was a black screen, hard freeze issue. I think this has been resolved. It appears to be a firefox issue. I uninstalled it and have not had any more issues.

My second problem was poor video play back web, itunes, etc. HD and standard through the HDMI or on the laptop screen. I have tried downloading several different video codec packs (k-lite codec pack,CCC community codec pack.) No luck. I installed kmplayer but still no luck. I have tired setting itunes, web, etc to use intel hd 4000 and playback seems a little better. With it set to use the 7970m playback is horrible.

I have ran memtest, no errors. I installed the new 12.7 beta drivers. Which made it worse. With the 12.7 drivers I got a lot of random crashes, and the computer never knew when to switch to the 7970m. I reverted back to the stock drivers that came with the machine, and everything is back to normal no crashes.

Any ideas on why I am getting such poor video playback? It seems like if the machine is not using a lot of processing power it will not switch over to the 7970m. Even so the intel is suppose to be able to hand HD video. I don't get my external cd rom drive until later this week, so a full re install is not an option at this time.

    Any help would be appreciated.
