I have a HOT and LOUD hair blow dryer XPS Gen2.

I'm looking to get away from the hot and loud.

Have chip/fan improvements advanced enough to make these Sager machines bearable in HEAT (being able to put on lap) and LOUDNESS?

The D901C (NP9262) is very quiet according to the reviews (read them before asking any more questions or do a search). The NP5796 hasn't yet been reviewed, but it should do pretty well (the NP5793 was a tiny bit more audible than the NP9262).

    ^^^ what they said. :)

Don't expect a high-end gaming notebook to be super quiet. ;)

The 5793 on idle or doing basic applications might be to loud to being into a library and a small sized classroom.

There are also different fan options available (at least for the NP 5796), so you can manually make the laptop quiet if you are in a library or something... But it remains audible, from what I've heard :)

    Oh yeah... thats right.

The Sager 5796 (M570TU) has a Silent Mode feature now.

I would like to see a review on that because it would be nice to have a system running cool enough without having to turning up the fans.

LOL??? I didn't know that!! That's a great new feature! Noise was practically the only disadvantage of that laptop! :Du

Yep according to the manual it has the feature. Although when i called up Sager and asked them about this it sounded like it was just a replacement for fn+1 low mode. But we will find out next week as they start shipping out.

The XPS 1730 and the 9262 are indeed quiet when idling, and much quieter than the 579x under load.
Sounds like the perfect RU => 57TU...
Interesting, I`m very curious about this.

When I talked to Tech at Xoticpc, they told me the 9262 and 5796 will be "about the same" when it comes to "heat/fan performance noise," but noted that the "heat may be a little more on the 9262" since "it's a little higher performance notebook with those desktop processors."

They also told me that the "fan noise will be a little louder on the 5796 as it was on the 5793".

the full blast of 579x is veryyyy loud; however, you won't need that unless your room temperature is 110F+

The Sager NP9262 with default fans is completely quiet (at least to me). Having the fans on maximum (Fn+1) does not bother me, especially since you only really use max fans when playing games which means you are most likely wearing headphones. You wouldn't hear the fans with headphones anyways.
