Unfortunately neither of those things are going to happen![]()
I would still like to know if a GTX 280M will work in an M570RU...
-
As for running a non-SLI pair of 260M GTX's (or future ones) in the D901C, it may still be a chance since with the OpenCL standard SDK GPUs and CPUs will all be considered generic Processing Units.
Its like programming multithreaded applications in a multi-CPU environment, as in Sparc Sun servers, versus programmming multithreaded applications on a Intel Dual Core or Quad system. The processing units (Nvidia GPUs or Sparc CPUs) do not necessarily have to be on the same die (as the Intel cores) or on a tight GPU setup like SLI.
However, for that to happen the games/applications need to be implemented in OpenCL (which may be less efficient) rather than in DirectX for which the current cards and the future 300 series are being designed and optimized.
We will have to see if Snow Leopard will be able to push things in that direction since it seems to support OpenCL natively.
For example, 250/260M GTS cards are officially supporting OpenCL, but they too have a MXM 3.0b slot. -
Did you try it and it didn't work? I see that you are selling the laptop... -

the gpu is in the mail just waiting for it. but yes I am selling my notebook. but when the card come in I will switch card to see if they work but I don't know about sli.
-
Okey, I got a surprise today when I finally installed pretty much all the drivers and I was getting ready to test my system for stability.
When I started GPU-Z, instead of finding the 9800M GTX card I found the Quadro FX 3700M card!
I know that this card is a better one, and also more expensive, but it also makes a possible upgrade to the 9800M GTX SLI configuration more problematic.
Anyone has any thoughts if I should be happy or unhappy about it? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
does it have a sli connector on it? can we see a screen shot of it.
-
Here is a screenshot of GPU-Z with it. HWMonitor and Everest also detect it as Quadro even though I have installed the Forceware drivers.
I thought that the Quadro FX 3700M does not have SLI capabilities, but I will double check. GPU-Z shows that SLI is disabled, although I do not know it it is BIOS or hardware disabled.
In the Quadro presentation sheet, 3700 does have SLI checked in the features matrix, but it may be just for the desktop (512MB) version.
There are also some threads related to the 3700M in D901C but not very lengthy:

well i heard the 280m is a 3700. so you maybe able to flash it to a 280m if you found another one and sli it but i'm thinking farfetched.
but take out the card and look at the bottom and see if you see a little plug. this is where you can add sli. -
Well, you are lucky
Where did you get that card?
-
You can find some 3700's on eBay, but they are usually MXM 2.1 type III (Dell M6400) instead of type IV that works with Clevo.
I will look at the card for the SLI connector, but I need to buy a electrostatic band first before I work with the internal parts. -
The MXM standard is backwards compatible, so an MXM III card will work in a type IV slot, as long as it is truly MXM
-
How can I find out if it is a MXM 2.1-IV or III? I need to disassemble it and measure it to see if it's (82mm)x(115mm) accoding to mxm-upgrade.com?
If the card is type III and it doesn't have a SLI connector I might not be happy, since they trade at eBay for about 400$. -
FX 37 doesn't have sli connector.

Everest says that my D901C has 2MB BIOS. I thought that it would be 4MB or am I confusing it with the D900F BIOS?
It also says that the BIOS is from 24 Sept. 2008, the motherboard is D900C Rev D (not D901C) and at boot time I get the following information:
- D900C 1.00.20
- KBC/EC Firmware Rev. 1.00.12N
Are these readings normal for a fully fledged D901C, e.g. supporting 9800M GTX in SLI?
Thanks. -
That is normal, the d900 and 901c's are only different in the chassis colour (the d900's were blue). You do not have the very latest bios/kbc, but the only thing that does is fix some bluetooth detection issues.

i have it but i decided not to go threw with the project because i put my notebook up for sale which is sold.
now i am selling my 9800m gtx.sorry guys.

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I guess it's all up to Beersentes then. I miss my old 9800M GTX.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
he said it fits and works. and he made a guide i think on page 3.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
We haven't heard back from him in a while though. In his post, he still has his 8800M GTX in his machine.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah i just read it. i think he said he needed a bios revision. i wish i knew which one since i have the 9800m gtx and the sager bios. but he's gone
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I personally gave him the BIOS the day after he made that post. He's probably still busy shooting up Iraqis.

oh ok i see. well we have to wait on him then.

dondadah88,
I was about to ask you your 3DMark06 score but I just stumbled on it in the M17x thread. Weirdest thing, I got exactly the same score with the 3700M: 12649
I still have to install Win 7 in order to get the Vantage results. What is your asking price for the card? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
His 9800M GTX is in the Marketplace right now. He is selling it for $400 as of this post.
-
I need to sleep on it if I return back the 3700M for the original 9800M GTX and start thinking about SLI again.
-
Has anybody tried a multi-GPU setup without SLI? Is the OS able to recognize both cards? I am wondering if you could potentially bind some tasks to the extra card, such as Physx compuations but not only. I think that before Nvidia acquired Ageia, you could use a GPU and the Physx card in the same system.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you can do that with 190.38 driver. one gpu for graphics and the other for physx but i'm not sure if you need a sli cable for it.
and yes i'm selling it for 400 but where are you located???? -
I've sent you a pm.
-
If anyone was still wondering about this, the M570TU 9800M GTX from dondadah88 works well in my D901C.
It needed the heatsink mounting frame though which I took it from a 8800M GTX. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
great. How do you like it?
-
Scores on Windows 7 (stock):
3DMark06: 11117 (SM 2.0, SM 3.0: 4627,4400, CPU:4103)
3DMark V: P5631 (GPU: 4462, CPU: 26250).
They are lower than the 3700M, but not much. I tried to use them both in a non-SLI configuration (with modded 190.62 drivers) but the display flickered after login and the display blacked out. I may have to wait for 190.38+ mobile drivers to try again.
Also, I could try a 8800M GTX SLI if I flash the 9800M GTX to 8800 vbios.
However, I will have to test more the 8800 because as a parent card cannot login in Windows. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
not bad. Higher then mines cause of the quad you have but my gpu'ss are little higher. I don't want to turn this into a benchmarking thread. Pm or email with those. If you want.

hey all, forgive me, i am a newb (i was in afghanistan for 7 months, i just got back so bear with me..). alright, i currently have a sager 9262 with q9650 3.0 ghz/1333 mhz fsb, 4 gb of 800 mhz ram, 1 9800m gtx...i'm buying a second 9800m gtx from someone who has the sager 5796. i've been reading and i've seen about the heatsink issue etc..now my question is, when i buy this card..i have really no idea what i'm doing, but is it going to be difficult to convert my sager to SLI? also..about the drivers issue side of things, laptopvideo2go.com didn't seem to work at all. so with that being said, if i installed the second card, would sager force itself to recognize the card and run in SLI mode or am i going to have to try to figure something out? i would definately prefer if a computer guru person were able to talk to me on the phone or something and try to help me walk through to installing it...i seriously have no idea what i'm doing, i just want SLI and i don't wanna ruin my 3000 dollar laptop is all. thanks.

You will need the D901C GPU-2-heatsink mounting frame and a D901C heatsink with fan. The M570TU heatsink will not work. Also a SLI band.
I do not know where you can find such frame, maybe from a used broken card. Look at the broken (AS IS or FAULTY) cards on eBay that have it. -
Are these the appropriate drivers for adding the second 9800 M GTX to the D901C?
