    Hi All,

Has there been any word about which GPUs could be added to the 5790 in the future? I'm really wanting to pull the trigger on it, but I will probably upgrade the GPU in the future when the dx10 games start streaming. My main problem is that I need the laptop fairly soon (month or so) and don't think I will have time for the 8700 or 8800 cards to be released from nVidia.

    Thanks

    This notebook is highly upgradeable.

I am confident to see this (as well as the D900C) to have 8700M GT's by next summer's end, and 8800M's by year's end.

    The upgradeable components:
    - Videocard (using standardized MXM-HE)
    - CPU (Santa Rosa platform)
    - RAM (DDR2 SO-DIMM)
    - HDD (2.5" SATA)
    - Optical Drive (standardized, so it will fit Blu-ray or HD-DVD)

natasdrol, Unfortunately there is no further information on what future cards will be supported. If and when they are added it will be likely August or after. :(

This notebook " should" be able to be able to use the new DX10 gpu's and the maximum processer for the 800Mhz FSB will be the Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.8Ghz (about $885 and should be available near years end)

Does anyone else find it really funny that a laptop nowadays can be just as upgradeable as a desktop, in terms of the above?

    I'll be buying a 5790 when I get a buyer for my 8790.

Thanks for the responses. Essentially I am stuck between 3 choices, the Asus C90 and the Sager 5790 or 9260.

I like the processors in the c90 and 9260 because battery life and mobility don't mean much to me.

I also like the 17 in screens on the Sager models. The only thing holding me back is the price on them. While I can get up to 3000, I'd much rather prefer it to stay a little lower.

Also, without knowing whether or not the the 7950GTX's can be swapped out I'm a little concerned about being able to play dx10 games in the future.

All of the models that you are looking at have interchangeable MXM videocards.

So yes, you can upgrade somewhere down the near future... but...

the current 7950GTX is the best videocard... none really close to it.

It will easily last for at least 2-3 more years... regardless if its DX10 or DX9.

So what's your opinion between the conroe and the santa rosa? Again, mobility means nilch to me and the laptop is going to be plugged in 99.999% of the time. The battery is there essentially to allow me to shutdown if a blackout occurs.

Then you should look at the Sager 9260 / Pro-Star 9191 (aka Clevo D901C).

    To Gophn.....

when you say that the graphics card will last at least 2-3 years whether it be dx10 or dx9 do you mean that it will be able to play dx10 games with the kind of gaming performance expected with this graphics card? Am I missing something in asking if a dx9 card can handle dx10 operations? What's the difference? Honestly, there is only one single game that I am interested in playing at the moment that will be very graphics-intensive and that is Crysis. The previews have me drooling over it right now. Any other games that I would play would include some other first person shooters, but none at the moment, and lots of sports games. Will the 7950GTX handle what I'm asking of it and if so, I will no longer need to wait to order the M570RU for graphics card reasons as much as getting the money to purchase it.

I'm sorry that I just kinda rambled on for a while and thanks for at least reading my post before you closed the tab. at least I hope you did. I say tab because I don't believe anyone on this forum isn't using firefox unless they seriously love microsoft. does bill gates come to this forum?

I meant that the 7950GTX will still perform well with all the new games... if its a DX10 games then your videocard will still do well but using the DX9 shaders.

Most of the games will have DX10 and DX9 support.... the game developers are not stupid to just make the games DX10-only... because they will be losing a huge portion of gamers with DX9 videocards.

Crysis, though it seems amazing and innovative, is mainly hyped-up for its DX10 effects... but I was not personally blown away while playing the beta or test demos.

True that Crysis will be a DX10 game... unknown that it will have DX9 shaders on release.... if they are smart it will.
