    Hi

I'm thinking of buying either NP8230 or 7352. can't afford anything higher at the moment

How is the sound/speakers quality? I.e. how bad is it?
Also how hot does np8230 get? Would I need to get an external cooling pad?

Would I be better off buying a Lenovo Y500 that's on sale right now and would cost the same as 7352?

    thanks

You need to list the specs you want your stuff at. The heat is usually almost never an issue for any Clevo based machines. Also, what is your budget? THat's a better thing to ask. I also may be wrong, but this could be in the what laptop should I buy section, but you're mainly asknig about Sagers so... I guess here's ok.

well, 8230 only has one configuration and I was going for the default

i.e. 770m, basic processor model, etc...

so I'm just wondering how the speaker quality is on sagers and if they get hot.
8230 and 7352 are smaller models, so I'm worried if they may not have enough air flow...

They only get hot if you don't take preemptive measures, which can be said about pretty much any laptop (i.e., don't let the fans, heat sinks, or vents become obstructed/keep it slightly elevated, clean it from time to time, as well as apply new thermal compound, etc.). A lot of people don't like the speakers on the Clevos, but sound quality is one of those things that's very subjective to everyone's ears.

A lot of threads say Clevo laptops have very bad speakers and also bad audio jacks therefore ruining your headphone experience as well.

Can anyone compare the audio jack quality to that of consumer level HP/Dell laptops? I am not an audiophile but I would like my headphone sound quality to be atleast to that of my smartphone!

    Thanks!

If you really care about audio you would be using an external USB sound card or running the optical into your own equipment.

Temps with the likes of the 770M should be fine.

Hi Meaker, in terms of longevity of the laptop. Let's say I run games at tad lower res instead of 1080p with AA/FXAA effects disabled, do you know what kind of temps we are looking at? I'm specifically asking with wrt NP8230 dual fan cooling chassis.

Your experience is appreciated/ OR if you have any info from fellow NP8230 owners.

I can input into this one.
Just got an Alienware M17x. As an audiophile, the sound quality on Alienware is way way ahead of the Clevo on external speakers alone. Don't use headphone jack and cannot comment on that one but the difference is nightNday between the two.

as an audiophile, you'd be using a USB DAC.

it's no secret that clevo's onboard sound is garbage, but it's a moot point really.

So I have heard and the only solution others have pointed out is an external USB card. Certainly would like to know whether the 3.5 mm audio jack quality is atleast decent or not? Any comparisons would be nice. Thanks for input from others as well..

I've used the headphone jack on my NP9170em and it's fine. Speakers are decent as well and i believe the entire range still uses the same onkyo branded speakers. I've heard both better and worse. It's a laptop after all, not a home theatre system. This is my first sager and it has held up fairly well so far over the last 7 months.

Yes the xx30 have the same audio solution as the xx50 at least.

What about the heat while gaming for multiple hours? Nobody has really comented on that yet.

Not an issue due to the lower power graphics.

So you think that the np8230 with the GTX 770m would be quite a bit worse than in regards to heat?

NO, it wont be worse. Temps seem to be on the lower side as the cooling solution is robust (dual cooling). However as in all gaming laptops, continuous use under high graphics load for long times, will affect components.

The GTX770M does not even hold a candle to what the 780M can put out and the basic design had that in mind.

Yea you will be fine with a 8230, they run very cool because the same case and fans are used for the 780M which can cook your breakfast for ya.

Noise when gaming isn't noticeable because you are gaming and hear the game, plus with that GPU the fans probably won't max out. These are gaming laptops though, they will not be dead silent, but for what they do they are decent.

Only thing lacking I think is more refined speed steps
