My copy of XP won't boot, and the bootconfig isn't set up to detect Vista yet, so I have no way of getting into Windows to eject it. I have the XP recovery CD in the disc now, and I need to get my Vista one in.

Oh yes, I'm using the UJ-120 BD drive, and it won't eject when in the BIOS or anything.

there is usually a tiny hole somewhere in the drive. you can use a thin pen or something to open the drive.

yup, you can use a paperclip to use on that tiny hole and it will manually eject the drive.

Ok, I got it to eject, but I am still unable to recover my system. :(

Does anyone know what I should do here? Basically:

    - I'm getting the "load needed DLLs for kernel" error message in Windows XP.
    - My Vista CD only will let me reinstall, not access the recovery console.
    - Rebuilding the boot config with the XP CD doesn't solve my problem
    - I can't boot into my working Vista HDD because it doesn't appear in the boot menu.

How can I either a) fix the XP boot, or b) add Vista to my OS selections?

    Please help me out here.

Install Vista on a separate partition if you can and leave the XP OS intact for the meantime.

You won't be able to access the XP OS unless you use EasyBCD or something similar in Vista to create a boot menu but at least you'll have Vista.

Or you could try doing a repair of XP - http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/rep... XP by Installing Over top of Existing Setup:

Have a look through some of these google results as well, they may help - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=load+needed+DLLs+for+kernel&btnG=Google+Search&=

I think you'll have to do a repair or flatten and re-install.

Is there any reason why this post is a carbon-copy duplicate of a perfectly respectable thread you have going on over in the Windows OS and Software forum?

    EDIT: Whoopsie! Problem fixed!

Sorry, I realized that the Windows board might be more appropriate for this after I posted it, but thank you for the help. I was able to find a Vista recovery ISO.

Glad you were able to get your problem squared away. Also, just for future reference, if something about a post doesn't work out quite right (e.g., wrong forum, etc), you can always pm a moderator and ask them to move the post or otherwise make the change you want - the mods will generally be reasonable about what you request, although it may take a bit of time (they're not paid, after all :D), and there are some things the system might not permit them to do.
