While it's not something that comes up very often, I was thinking of using a projector at work tomorrow to make a training session a bit easier. Rather than trying to find a laptop in the office that isn't chained to a desk somewhere I figured I'd just run powerpoint off my laptop.

Then I realized... Projectors are normally hooked up to a computer via a computer video cable (The type that connects a monitor to a PC). At that point I realized.. the NP8660 doesn't have a video port!

I'm sure there are other ways to hook up a projector to the computer, but I don't know what they are.

So... how can you hook a NP8660 to a projector?

yes, projectors should be able to connect to any computer (notebook or desktop)... using the software with the videocard (for the M860TU, you will be using the Nvidia Control Panel)

    the typical connections used are:
    - HDMI (in the latest projectors)
    - DVI
    - VGA (can use a DVI-VGA adapter as well)
    - S-Video (using the TV-out port on the system)... not great quality, only 480i

Yes, it does. DVI out and HDMI out. Almost all newer projectors have either one or both of these.

Doesn't the NP8660 come with the DVI-VGA adapter?

If not then that's what you need to get. It screws onto the end of the regular VGA (blue) cable and then you plug it into the DVI (white) port on your laptop.

Stop talking about projectors, the hard drive is hot!!! Its the end of the world!!!!

Btw, no it shouldn't come with an adapter. Its generally bundled with a video card or the MacBook Air, but that's a MicroDVI to VGA :D

And yeah, newer projectors should have HDMI or DVI.

And the other one is for the hair dryer. Don't forget to put your cofee mug on the optical drive.

In Canada, go for NCIX or eBay. I hate so much the fact that Amazon.com don't ship to Canada, they have a lot of great stuff.

I think there's a DVI to component (not the RCA cable) but anyway, the quality would be really poor through S-Video. I tried to S-Video output of a video card on a 50'' DLP TV and in one word: FAIL

I actually got one of the adapters for DVI to VGA with my NP8660 from Eurocom. I feel like one of those Apple people with their fancy cables for projectors...

I tend to think there is an adapter for just about anything these days. Look hard enough and you'll probably find an HDMI to CGA or DVI to EGA floating around out there.

My main concern is that I'm not sure how new/old the projector is.. and even if it's new... there may not be an HDMI cable available..

Right, that's where an HDMI to something else adapter would come in. You might have to swing by an electronics store on the way to work if you want to be prepared today.

All the projectors in my university have VGA, and composite inputs, as they are not new... I would take the dvi-vga adapter...

Go for that as VGA cable arent as expensive as HDMI cables.
