Title says all. I'm just curious as to how people learned of this great boutique brand, how we swam above the advertisements and "oligarchies" the big computer companies have over the mainstream masses.

In my case, I actually stumbled across Sager by someone's signatuere (I'd love to remember who's...but it was a while ago). I clicked on the link the Powernotebooks.com first and I was amazed by the prices and the looks of the comptuer - it was like a perfect match. A few threads later here I am, getting a brand I didn't even know existed just a couple weeks ago! :)

So, how did you discover the "truth"? :D

I've been looking for a high-end gaming desktop replacement, and I knew that Alienware/Dell laptops (and their high-end desktops, for that matter) are ridiculously overpriced, so I began looking for alternatives. Came across an article about the D900C and M570RU being shown at CeBit and appreciated the performance (and the price) that Sager offers over the more well-known resellers.

I thought I wanted an HP dv9000t so I went around online looking for the best deal. I came upon this website and didn't like the reviews and my personal experience with the notebook so I started poking around. I spent my first week on the forum creeping around the major name brands(Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony), then spent two weeks in the Asus forum. I opened my eyes by reading countless pages of info about upcoming notebooks and was shown Sager/Compal/Clevo. I've loved myself and this site ever since. I knew my thrifty shopping would bring me here eventually.

I also have Xotic PC to thank since I read their article about who really makes laptops.

Yeah, I like to ramble and type a lot. Wanna fight about it?

I've bought 2 Sagers 1) 4780 4 years ago 2) 5710 over 2 years ago. I was looking for a 17 inch screen and found a review on CNET.com. I started buying Laptop Magazine (which is the leader for laptop information) and they advertise in the magazine but I really didn't notice till I read the review on Cnet. They also advertise in the Computer Shopper. Sager only makes laptops and have been making them since 85.

I found the forums in order to learn what the terminology was for all the parts and pieces, mainly the gpus. I come from the desktop world and had no idea what to look for. This site is awesome for people like me, and after going through the "what should I buy?" thread I found out about Compal and Sager.

The first time I ever really knew who they were was when I was searching for a laptop myself. I joined this forum late may when I found it on google just researching for a great laptop to buy. When I joined in the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" section I posted a thread of my own. I had a couple of o.k. suggestions and I looked into them but it was when Chaz suggested the IFL-90, and I was hooked to that laptop since. I did lots and lots of looking around about it and finally ordered the sager 2090 on June 19, WOOOOO!

I had my heart set on an alienware 5550 but while doing research i discovered this site and posted in the "what notebook should i buy?" area and you (Syntax Error) suggested the NP2090. After some more research i decided the alienware wasnt worth the money and yesterday i ordered a 2090 from xoticpc.

That is so true for me also, i really didn't know that much about laptops before I came to this website but all the information on this website and the nice people have made the process EXTREMELY easy. The only bad thing is my brother is always trying to use it because he likes my machine so much. :p

That's great to hear! :D I also didn't know much about the brand, but a little research tells you a lot contrary to what the big companies would have you to think!

PcMagazine had a review of high end gaming, and included the Eurocom (at over $ 5k). I did some google search and found Sager, Targa Raptor, Blackhawk, and yadda, yadda. Soon I found Clevo.TW and noticed that all these different machines kinda sounded alike, even with the sales spin factored in.

It took another day or two to find the truth, they came from the same factory. Information [seeking truth] takes time.

This Forum is great. It has saved me at least a month's worth of ferreting out information. Thanks to all involved!

Computer Shopper Jan 1986. Bought my first Sager notebook from Sager.

    Paid a criminal and non-inflation adjusted $3,150 for a Pentium 120, 800MB HD, 12" VGA screen with 40MB ram.

Now I can get a NP5790 fully loaded for ~$2700.

So, like, in like, inflation adjusted dollars, I paid a whopping $13,500 for that '86 model.

That's a lot of Whopper Jrs off the dollar menu..

LOL. Well, my friend, this is the Sager and Clevo section of the forum.

Check out the Dell section. Oh and the Asus. And the Hp one too.

Oddly, they all seem very pro-ownerofsaidmanufacturer too.

Wierd I tell ya. Just plain wierd it is.

i knew of sager laptops and powernotebooks.com about a year or two ago, i forgot exactly where but probably word of mouth on how the laptops are great and the prices are. i didn't really consider them until I had to start looking for a new laptop for college this summer. after a bout a week or two of research, comparing prices, more research, reading reviews, people's opinions, i settled on the Sager NP2090. luckily i waited on buying the IFL90 because the specs and price is way better with the NP2090.

just ordered it a few days ago and sent the check out, hopefully it will get hear as soon as possible!

Yes... This website lead me to them.

    >>>Feel free to skip long-winded story

I was looking for the best deal (about 2 months ago) and almost got an HP dv6000t (since it was so popular), but then actually started reading the forums and began wanting an Asus G1. The G1 was too overpriced so I was amazed and overjoyed when the F3SV was announced. I thought I had found my notebook, but right when I was about to get it the Compal IFL90 was announced and threw me into doubt. I soon came to the light and decided it was the lappy for me. I wanted, however, the Sager name due to its influence in the high end gaming world.

    >>>> Continue reading...

    So Sager it is!

I didn't know that much about laptops before I came to this forum, was looking for a laptop for my son and for myself and stumbled across it looking for "power notebooks" under google. I have been reading and learning ever since and now would never consider buying any laptop ever again without finding out more about it here on this forum. Didn't know what a Sager or Clevo was before!
