Hey I recently just got my Sager NP5760. I've had it for about a week and its started to become a little dirty. There is dust on the screen and the screen has a few smudges on it. Also the metal below the keyboard has started to become a little dirty.

Does anyone know how I safely clean my laptop. Thanks alot.

You can use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen. Use an air-duster to get rid of dust from the keyboard and vents.

For more information, please refer to the cooling guide.

I use the silk/microfiber cloth that comes with optometrist prescription glasses.

    It works fine.

but what to use to clean the case/plastic under the keyboard, where your wrists set.
I've noticed this area becoming slightly discolored from body oils, etc.
What can we use to clean this so you don't get those ugly worn/dark patches?

the safest way that i have used is to get orange magic (or other orange-type spray products).

if the grease marks are still new, it should cut through the grease easily and not damage your notebook's surface.

That was my idea also, but i had not tried it yet.
I was worried as to whether the silver color of the case was a coating or solid plastic. didn't want to strip the cool color off my shiny lappy.

is there any type of chemical that can be used to clean off the screen itself?

Yeah, probably any LCD screen cleaner. You'll find them at your local office supplier (staples for example). Kensignton make a kit with a cleaner and a pack of cotton cloth.

Also you can just use a little bit of water, if the cloth only can wipe smudges off. When I say water it's a little, just so your cloth is barely humid :).

I'd strongly recommend not using any sort of chemicals on the screen; glossy screens are very sensitive. Use a microfiber cloth and dampen one side of it. That's all you need. You can blow out the sides of the monitor with canned air. As jetstar said, check the cooling guide.

Haha, I remember my father-in-law just scrapped his nice 17" flat CRT by shooting a big splash of Windex directly onto his screen lol. The anti-glare came off (unequally for sure) in seconds.

But you know I didn't mean glass cleaner, right? I meant specialized products, especially made for LCDs. This when sometimes the cloth can't just do it :).

But agreed with chaz, usually just water or a microfiber would do fine. If using a specialized ;) cleaner, just spray on the cloth and not on the screen.

I just use the disposable lcd screen wipes and use them to clean the whole notebook. Works fine :)

I use spit an a hanky.

actually, I really use a soft cloth that was made as a screen protector and cloth lcd-wipe for my old 12 inch ibook. It works fine. Now I need an air can for dusting so I can get the dust out of the tight places like the keyboard and the corners of the LCD.

I too am noticing the dark area of dirt/etc under the left side of my keyboard (side effect of WASD gaming).

Since this area is textured plastic, there are many pits and valleys for the discoloration to pile up in.

So far, all attempts to remove these marks have failed.
I've tried liberal amounts of the orange-based cleaners and a variety of cloths/rags to try and strip that stuff off.
I've even tried a stiff nylon brush to try and scour the grime out of the textured surface - but to no avail.

If anyone has successfully removed the grime prints out of the 5760 wrist-rests, I would love to know exactly how you did it.

I dust, clean, wipe, and polish my system every day (neat freak here, and I like to show this notebook off), and this wrist mark is really a black eye.

Thanks in advance for any more information or suggestions.

Use nothing but eyeglass lens cleaners.
They contain no ammonias, alcohols or any strong grease cutting chemicals.
And they are cheap as hell. Go to your local WalMart and get them in the optical section. Couple bucks and your good.
I personally perfer the pre-moistened Zeiss (wet nap type) lens cleaner.

This is what i'm looking to prevent also.
I've taken to using a folded cloth handkerchief on top of the wrist rest. I use a mouse so the trackpad gets turned off.
But I have yet to find a cleaner that removes the wrist stains.
