Hello guys, I'd like to remove my keyboard to clean it a bit. I noticed 4 little black 'lockers' at the top of the keyboard but I have no clue on how to remove the keyboard. :p

    Any help?

I don't know, but I've uploaded the service manual for you. You should find your answers there.

Use a flat edge to push those four things down or towards the screen. The keyboard should pop up. You should be happy it isn't popping out by itself...

your notebook has 4 of those things? mine only has 3 that i can see and my keyboard pops out a lot. I was planning on sending it to Eurocom eventually to get it checked out.

edit: nevermind found the fourth. still annoying though that they tend to pop back in.

Make sure to unplug your keyboard from the socket before you yank it out!

Push in those 4 little clips at the top of the keyboard. The top of the keyboard should pop up. After that lift the keyboard and pull it toward the screen it should slip right out.

After you have done that u gotta unplug the ribon. There are two slides on both sides of the connector. push those foward and the ribon should slide right out.

You will need to use a plastic screw driver or some tool to release the clips and the slides... fingers are too big

Same here, and I plan on sending it in too (which is annoying, as it's such a minor mechanical issue that impacts the entire laptop so much). Heathkidd: yeah, send the laptop in for repair, this is a pretty annoying & unacceptable issue for this laptop.

Be careful with the tabs, especially the central 2 ones, when taking your keyboard out. They can be loose/break/etc if you poke them too much.

Yeah you guys should definitely send them back in. That's unacceptable.

You know why I've been hesitating (for months now)? The LCD's perfect, the CPU/graphics card run super cool, my HD is ok, etc. All the hardware is great, and I don't really want any (especially LCD) switched out, since the tabs are built into the case.

I just don't want to be without my laptop :(

It only happens like once every 12 hours and takes 10 seconds to fix but yea I definitely will send it in eventually.

I guess since were all on the same page with these problems: Has anyone else noticed they tightened the screws way too tight on the inside components? I mean they are really hard to unscrew, and because of it I can't unscrew the GPU because of a damaged screwhead.

    Hi,

is this a common problem of the m860tu that the keyboard keeps popping out? I read a post in another forum where someone was complaining about the same issue. His keyboard even shows a bulge in the top middle section.

I have mine for almost 4 month now and never experienced this. I also canot imagine how this can happen as the keyboard sits really very tight in the case.

Can it be this problem starts to show after a while? Iam a bit worried...

It's an issue with some laptops that seems to be there from the start. Really not a big deal in my opinion. It's like there's a penny underneath the F11 key for me; I can still type just fine. It doesn't seem to hit the LCD so yeah, I don't worry about it. I'd rather have this than be without a laptop during servicing.

i got this laptop the day it was release and i had the keyboard popping out within a week of use.

I sent it back and have never had the problem. it stays in place although the top of the keyboard is a little wave... some spots are higher than the other.

when i did have the problem i used a little bit of double sided scotch tape you can get at any CVS and pushed the clips in and out alot. sometimes they get jamed in so they arnt able to extend all the way. This held the keyboard for a little while.

Above the F1, F6, F10, and Del keys.

I don't think the keys aren't really lower, it's just that the keyboard tends to push up next to them. On my setup there is a small pad underneath the tabs around the F10 key which pushes up the Pause/PrtSc buttons making the Ins/Del keys look a little lower.

My del key is a bit lower too, but also the escape key on the other end of the keyboard, which makes it look symmetric again :)

ive had popping for abit.. but honestly i think its fixable if u take the keyboard out compleatly and push the clips in and out abit then reseat it its fine..

sending it in would require basicaly a compleat replacement of laptop which is hard/long time etc..

worth trying to fix your self first

i think ive fixed mine.. its hard to tell thou (really need to lug it around outside alot before i can see if its happening).

That's how mine is too, and I assumed it was that way by design.

Fortunately, I've never had this keyboard issue.

Mine keys are all perfectly flat. But I hope taking out the keyboard doesn't mess that up, I really need to clean this thing out .

I know that the spacebar sound when you depress it is much more loud than other keys of this keyboard. I've noticed that my left shift key also produces louder sound compared to other keys and sometimes it gets stuck a little bit. I tired removing the keyboard and tried to see if there was something stuck in the left shift key but unfortunately I found none. What could be the problem with this? I've been using this laptop for about 3 weeks only until now. Can you pop out one key from this keyboard and return it again without breaking anything?

I dunno about popping off the keys. It wasn't very hard with my old Dell, the Sager keyboard seems a lot firmer thou and usually once you pop a key off its hard to put it back on and it tends to start popping off on its own later. Thanks for bumping this topic XD! I needed to clean my keyboard but I had no clue how and I figured it was a PItA going through the back thing.

I tried popping off my 'O' key last week to remove some crumbs, and that sucker wasn't moving. I was afraid to apply any more pressure, so I just jammed on it to smash them up instead lol.

Same here (the noise differences between keys - space, left shift, right shift is a bit louder too, and then Esc/Delete get squeaky (keyboard is too tight)). Enter key is louder than the other keys too. My keys don't get stuck unless I have crumbs under them (this has always been the reason).

The keys are very easy to lift off (well not "easy" but "yank hard and it comes off, and pops right back on") and are well made, by the way, so pry them off and check to see if a hair or crumb isn't right under the springy portion of the key. Near-invisible hairs tangled under the keys/around the two spring tabs are usually the issue. I've actually applied a lot of pressure to lift off some keys and they're very sturdy (both the keys and the spring mechanism under it). Just take a toothpick, lift the key up, put a finger under it and tug up. Press down to pop it back into place. Seriously, the keys and springs are very sturdy for this keyboard (note: not the tabs). I've also run a toothpick in between keys and under them to get off any dust/fluff when I clean out my laptop.

I guess it makes up for the keyboard's faults in other ways (i.e. stupid tabs), as I've had other laptops with the reverse problems - keyboard was placed very well inside the case but the keys would pop off. One older dell I had had easy to lift off keys but once you removed the key two wire springs fell apart and you would need to balance them just right when placing the key back into place - incredibly hard.
