When I open it up it says no supported devices found and all the options are greyed out. Does it actually improve audio quality btw? Seems like nothing but a sub audio processor for features and gimmicks like EAX.

Using the built in speakers btw.

Actually, it does make quite a large difference. You'll notice a significant lack of bass without it. You'll have to run the link to register your THX software before it will enable though.

    What link is that?

And will the audio be less tinny?

edit: Found it, but I still can't select any speakers...It asks what speakers to use in audio device selection and I selected the Realtek HD audio, but the "Selection your speaker setup" under settings is greyed out, with the options in the UI

When you install the THX driver (or if it came preinstalled) it should just create a desktop/start menu link to "register THX" You may have to reboot, then open THX via the quicklaunch bar on your taskbar and enable it. After that, you can use the settings in THX/Realtek to get your audio working. The Surround/Crystalizer/Speaker options in THX seem to make the biggest difference. The onboard sub doesn't work (no surround sound options) until THX is running. It should get rid of a lot of the tinnyness.

the thx makes a huge difference. i use external altec's and the sound if very flat and unflattering without it. when i enable it you'll notice simulated surround sound right away and a fuller sound right away.

Try pressing Fn + 5 (not the F5 function but the digit 5), that should activate the enhanced audio. It does on my P170HM/17CL37

You cannot post a reply less than 10 characters. Yep is less than 10 characters. Tacking on a "10char" fixes this.

It does work on the P151HM. Fn + 5 (number 5 at top NOT F5). It's in the manual for P151/150/170HM, and P151HM is same as P150HM except for power supply.

Then it's not activated. THX needs to be activated in order to use the subwoofer.

The onboard sub DOES work without THX, just turn the laptop around and take it to your ear.

Might be better with THX, im not sure. Im only using my external audiocard.

    SRS WoW is good!

I found something better - DSP plug-ins for winamp. Im using the BBE SONIC MAXIMIZER plugin (its used for studios and radio stations for bass and crisp sound). Unlike equalizers, the sonic maximiser doesent add harmonic distortion, but does something quite unique. The sound quality remains superb at high levels.

I could post a guide for using dsp plugins with winamp, but this forum isnt the place for it.

Just install it and click the registration link that shows up on the desktop or program menu. Once it's registered, it will work.

I have a myth nyx1712 and yes it works, though I found it better when I set my settings in playback device in win7 as 5.1, the sound is very clear and very loud I can watch a film and the sound would fill the bedroom completely. I even watch films with my son in the living room on the couch while the laptop is on the table across the room.

I think it's relevant enough. You can post the guide in the off topic forum and provide the link here.

Did you install the Realtek driver?
I have an MSI which has THX TruStudio Pro too.
I had the same problem but it works well after I install the Realtek driver.
Seems like it does not work with default windows driver.

Thanks! Apparently it was the wrong audio driver that came with the laptop. After digging back the drivers and utilities cd, I installed the correct one.. and THX is now successfully active.

sorry to bring up this old thread but there's an update for the THX Trustudio Pro application and it's version 1.04.12 released 10/25/2012 posted on the Sagernotebooks.com site. This version is compatible with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

And yes, the Realtek HD Audio driver is required and has to be installed through the HDXTHX.INF, HDXTHX2.INF or maybe HDXRT.INF file of the Realtek driver package in order for the THX Trustudio Pro app to work.
