I was curious for those of you who use headphones/headsets, how do you rate the sound of your 5793? Is an external sound card necessary ? Any sound in general but specifically games and music. I am actually looking at the M860TU but I assume it will have very similar or equal sound as the 5793. I would definitely consider buying an external if they're equal to a desktop card, sound quality is very important to me. Thanks

if sound is a major issue to you then i would suggest you to get an external soundcard, plus a nice headphone/earphone. the sound quality on it is just like all the other laptops

I don't have any issues with the audio with headphones on, but I'm wishing I got the express card. Now that I want it, I don't see it listed as an accessory on Xotic's site. I'll check a few other sites for it.

I use Bose sound canceling headphones and they sound great for movies, but music could use a little more oomph.

imo with headphones the sound is just as good as any other notebook. now using the buils in speakers is a different story they are not bad at all but not nearly as good as other notebooks we own.

Yeah I agree. The speakers aren't bad, certainly comparable to any other lap top I've had, but if you're looking to play MP3's or whatever, you will certainly want external speakers.

    Rambo,
I agree, USB I don't think is the answer. I've heard the Soundblaster express card and do like the way it sounds. It has pretty good quality hooked up to a set of nice external speakers.

I`m using the Creative Live USB Sound Card 24 bit and man does it ever rock! Pair that with my Altec Lansing speakers and the volume is so high that you can`t max out the volume, unless you`re in a huge hall, having a party.
The headphone quality on the standard audio card is enough also and pretty good, good bass if the headphone supports it and crisp sound even at higher volume levels.

Thats my plan exactly Eleron!! Nirvana, you've read my mind. It's sold out from Creative, and the closest thing I can find to the same price is on ebay for 80 bucks plus shipping.

Gonna order it tonight. Think I might go with Bose speakers though.... I was listening to a set at the Bose store by my house that sound fantastic!!

^^ Would have to agree, although I have a nice USB TV Tuner that works as good as my current internal.... just saying USB Tuner is always an option and you'll use the tuner card much less than the Sound card IMO. So now that I've said that, a better internal sound card would be nicer than an internal TV Tuner

I don`t think you can put a sound card inside a laptop on the PCI slot just like that, but then again I wouldn`t know.
An express slot card would do also.

Agreed Eleron, I'm personally going after the express slot card. I've found a few at a decent price.

My previous Toshiba Portege A100 has greater loud than Np5793 for sure.. I paired it up with my Bang & Olufsen Earset...
Might think to buy one external USB Eleron mentioned though.. and btw, the speakers in Np5793 sucks.. It sounds so bassy --"
