    Hello All,

My friend is looking for a gaming laptop, and i told him about Sager/Clevo gaming laptops and he was simpressed with what he could get for his money.

    He had 2 concerns:

    1. Will he be able to use this laptop on his lap or will it get too hot it could burn him? Will using it on his lap block any air ducts?

    2. Do these laptops get loud that it would be hard to game without headphones? Are the fans clearly audible during gaming?

I am unsure as i have never owned one, but he was looking to get a sager with the 3rd gen ivy bridge and a 7970m

Any help that can be provided would be great

    Thank you!

as they are high powered laptops its advisable not to use them on your lap for too long as it can block the vents so over heat the components so the fans go full blast to try and compensate.
the fans can get loudish while gaming but normally the sound effects of the game will dampen this out.

what part of the world will he be purchasing from so we can give resellers advice.

It is not recommended to use any laptop directly on your lap as your legs and pants tend to block critical airflow vents on the laptop. For this reason, there are lap tables and laptop coolers that can be used if users insist on having it sitting in their lap. Just be sure to do some research on them first.

Concerning noise questions with these laptops, this has been discussed in other forum threads already which can be found here http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/666925-noise-clevo-machines-2.html
    and here http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/656018-youtube-videos-resellers-p150em-p170em-w110er.html
These two links even cover the NP9150 and NP9170 which should be the only 2 laptops from Sager that offer the 7970M.

I have 3rd degree burns on my legs from a Sager Laptop. I'm horribly disfigured by it. The only consolation was the fact that the fans are so loud that no one could hear me sobbing like a three year old.

Mine gets pretty warm, but it also has two video cards and that is to be expected...

My wife has a p150 with a 6990 in it and she plays plenty with it in hey lap with no complaints.

    I hope this helps.

I just got the sager np9130-- this thing doesnt get warm at all from leaving d3 open for 24 hours straight. this thing is as cold as ice-- i might start putting my groceries on top of this baby instead of in the refridgerator.

coolest thing since ice cube, no joke

and the speakers are so-so-- plenty good enough that you can hear fine without headphones or what not. the speaker quality is my only complaint about this laptop. i give everything else a 10 out of 10. the power of this thing is AMAZING

If your friend is set on using it on his lap they do make notebook lap desks. They are pretty much a flat surface to put the computer on so you dont block the intake vents so you keep the proper air flow.

Went a year without a desk once. Gamed on a nice notebook cooler that was comfortable on the lap with no problems.

Well, I believe he is going to pull the trigger on a clevo. He is in the USA, was wondering if there are any resellers that are better to use?

He was going to buy from the sager website itself as he likes the 30 day money back guarantee.

    Thanks all!

Don't order from the Sager website! Just go to the main sager forum and read the clevo guide. There are a bunch of resellers listed there.

I can't speak for any other resellers, but I purchased a np9170 from Powernotebooks.com with a 675m and I had several times where I needed to email them to change something and they always responded very quickly even at horrible hours when no one should be working. The owner, Donald is a well reputed man and he helped (and is still helping me as I sent mine back to get a new one with a 7970m in it (30 day moneyback guarantee)) a ton with my purchase. Very knowledgeable and friendly. They aren't just out to get your money and truly want to make sure you're happy... Donald even talked me out of buying more expensive components that I didn't need. That's my 2 cents. I'm sure the other resellers are great as well though!

Sager has terrible CS, from what I've heard. If you're a NBR member and you order from Xotic, I think you get 30 day no questions asked return as well. So he might as well go to a reseller who can actually help you.

I doubt any Sager laptop gets hotter than my 7280 during a long gaming session. I game with it on my lap with a laptop cooler underneath for hours at a time with no problem.

Is it okay to use a laptop cooler everytime I use my laptop or should it be used only when needed?

So thermal compound or copper cooling is more effective?

Better thermal compound helps mores, if you want the lowest temps possible adding the copper cooling helps but if you had to pick one or the other it would be thermal compound.
