    Hi,

I just got my 5793 a little while ago, and I've been noticing that when my laptop is plugged in and I'm playing a game, the box thing in the middle of the power cord gets really hot. Is this normal? I'm worried its going to fry the insides or worse yet fry my laptop somehow.

The laptop itself seems just fine, no heating problems at all. Its just the ac adaptor thats getting hot.

yes the power adapter gets hot... especially when you are gaming, its normal.

you can help it cool down a bit by leaving it on a hard, flat surface... where the heat wont be insulated... like if you were leaving it on carpet or a bed.

Pretty normal. In some series, the 5793 actually received a fan in the power adapter.
Don`t worry, it`s normal,as any conductor ran by electrical current gets hot.

As the others advised, make sure it has a surface to dissipate that heat.

It´s absolutely normal because they use MOSFETs as voltage output regulators... and as you know when a transistor receives some current/voltage, it will get hot quite easily...

BTW those MOSFETs used have a max junction temperature of around 100-200ºC so dont worry. ;)

Mine gets too hot to touch when I play games. I can keep my finger on it for like 3 seconds, but then I have to move it.

As long as it dosent blow up on you, its fine :) Ive heard about people getting burned by an AC adaptor before, so yes, they can get very hot :)

@Cookie - Mine also gets very hot under gaming, so hot its uncomfortable to touch for more than a few secs :)

Mine gets really hot and its great.

I take heat as a sign of work and power. Therefore, I am happy whenever my hands burn to a crisp whilst gaming. It is the coolest way to play. :D

    LOL. you too?

I actually have a small 5V fan cooling my power brick.

But on cold days, I like having the extra heat... helps to warm my hands. :)

LOL thanks for all the responses and suggestions on what I can do with my hot ac adaptor. Glad to see its normal, and I'm not the only one who has burned my finger.

The foot warmer idea sounds good.
