I was streaming pandora for a few hours today and went to pack up my system. When I picked up the power supply, it burnt my hand and I dropped it. So I grabbed my laser temperature reader and it registered 186F. Is this thing supposed to get that hot?!?
It was sitting on a wooden floor and was not covered. Any ideas?

Mine reaches 171°ƒ (verfied with a laser thermometer) while gaming.

No never that hot, mine gets pretty hot but not that hot I don't think........hmmmm now you got me wondering.Gotta go find my thermometer!
I guess it might also depend on what system you have. -
^ See sig.

if you pick it up and it burns you, thats pretty hot then
try undervolting your cpu, it'll draw less power thus making your AC adapter cooler. At least I noticed that difference with my AC adapter, it is somewhat less warm than it used to be. -
Ya it burns. Its good now actually, Plugged in. Found it strange it would get so dang hot!
Does RM Clock work with the Montevina chipset? I'm already running the 25w proccy, but I'm sure I could get it down lower. I'll try that and see if it works. -
Where you plugged into a surge protector?
-
Nope! I need to invest in one. Only problem is I don't want to pack one around with me. We usually have pretty reliable power here in Utah County.

mine actually gets extremely hot after a long period of gaming.
I just make sure to give it as much passive cooling as possible by standing on its side rather than on the standard top and bottom.
And I sometimes have a small fan or even a USB fan pointing at it.
It has never really failed on me... the passive cooling can only do so much.
I would not worry about it. -
I used to put my feets on the power supply durring winter ^^ but dang that must be hot
-
do any of you above have a fan built into the power brick.
it seems that some do and some dont depending who they are bought from.
wonder why this is? -
How hot is the power supply supposed to get?
