    Is it recommended to use the cash discount on xoticpc? Is there anything unnecessary in this config that I can take off to lower the price?

    You could drop the processor to a T7100 and probably not notice the difference. How much is the T7100 --> T7300 upgrade?

    On Powernotebooks, it's only $50, but I forgot what it was for Xotic.

    I'd say that upgrade to the 7300 is the best upgrade for a cpu you can get, double the L2 cache bringing you to 4 mb and add 200 mhz? I couldn't pass up that kind of an upgrade, plus you get that warm fuzzy feeling inside that you made it to 2000 mhz.

    Techies should resist such fuzzies. You maximize one of a few things:

    * performance / investment price
    * performance / watt
    * performance

    Otherwise, you just choose a compromise and suffer :p

    I'd say you have a good computer in the making at a good price. This one seems like a powerful yet casual use. If you are going to watch movies or play games you will be able too. Of course, for the most recent games this customization won't be the best. But besides games this choice is great.

    You may want to look into a single 2GB stick. If the price difference is reasonable, it would make much more sense to go with the single stick, which could leave you room down the road for 3-4GB of total RAM.

    Everything on those specs looks good. How about a faster hardrive.
