Is there anything you would change? Is it worth upgrading to the P150HM?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Personally if I was going to spend close to 1400 I would have gotten the p150 and take advantage of the spend 1500 and get 100 off to bring it back to 1400.

I would probably upgrade you video card and worry about doing the solid state on your own if you can't fit it into the budget of the initial purchase. Possibly similar choice with the ram as it's an easy do it yourself upgrade and probably cheaper that way.

I dont know your situation, but I am with Cainman.

I would get the P150HM and take advantage of the $100 off when purchase is over $1500. So you only pay $1400.

You could save a few bucks if 16GB RAM is not needed, if need be you can always upgrade it later as its not too complicated.

Same deal for the SSD, you could buy a compatible SSD maybe during the black friday sales and do the upgrade yourself. Just a thought :)

    Agreed, take the $100 off.

And 80gb for primary SSD may be too little. Heck I just got my 8130 and with fresh install of windows 7 pro/office 2010/sc2 I've used 50gb already.

Plus do you plan on o/c? If not I don't think the thermal paste will make much difference.

What do you plan to do w/ the system?

    That's a good idea. I didn't realize I could take $100 off.
I'll do the P150HM and upgrade the RAM and SSD myself.

I wasn't planning on overclocking it.

Just gonna use it for school / some gaming (BF3, Skyrim, etc.)

It is a great time to grab the HD6990 since most resellers have it for $100 off :D

To save some space on your SSD, you might want to turn off the paging file (8GB total) and hibernation, as well as turn off or limit the amount of space system restore can use. Also, moving the C:/Users folder can make a huge difference.

Move the Users Directory in Windows 7

Thanks for all of the advice everyone!
    I'm trying to decide between a P150HM and a P151HM now :)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    P151HM1

    15.6" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED AUO B156HW01 V.7 95% NTSC Glossy Display

    Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.2-3.1GHz

    (16GB) 16384MB, PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3 - 4 SO-DIMM
(Another 8GB for $50 more sounds like a good deal)

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M 1.5GB GDDR5

    500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300

Hard Drive Caddy (Can install SSD later)

    Intel® 6300 Ultimate-N 802.11A/B/G/N LAN Card

IC Diamond 7 Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU
(I'd rather not apply it myself!)

    Total: $1216

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    P150HM

    15.6" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED AUO B156HW01 V.7 95% NTSC Glossy Display

    Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.2-3.1GHz

    (8GB) 8192MB, PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3 - 2 SO-DIMM
($90 extra for another 8GB is a little too much)

    AMD® Radeon HD 6990M 2GB GDDR5

    500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300

    Hard Drive Caddy

    Intel® 6300 Ultimate-N 802.11A/B/G/N LAN Card

IC Diamond 7 Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU

    Total: $1425
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I can see, it's coming out to about a $200 difference to upgrade to the AMD 6990M. I'd ideally like the laptop to last about 2 years.

Are there any other major differences between the two models?
Do both of them have the same gritty/rubberized trackpad?

    Thanks for your help!

The only differences you'll see between the two right now are those you configured (RAM and video card) and that the P150HM has a rubberized exterior, while the P151HM1 has a plastic one. Also, the P151HM1 only comes with a 120w adapter which means if you wanted to upgrade the graphics in a year or two, you'll need to buy a 180w adapter.

The 6990 is 2x (or more) the power of the 560m, so if you want it to last you a while, I'd go with it instead. The 16GB of RAM versus 8GB probably won't even be noticeable unless you do a lot of workstation tasks (VM's, etc).

Yes I also would say that if it could fit in your budget go for the P150HM/8150.

With the AMD 6990M you would have a 'best value' gaming laptop for a good while to come! :)
