I´m considering buying a sager (either the np7370 or the np8230). I´d much prefer to build a desktop, but I need the portability as I have no idea where I´ll be and what I´ll be up to over the next year to two years. (I could build a mini itx or micro atx system, but still it´d probably be harder to carry around than a laptop). The build quality is going to be very important because I need mine to last for gaming a solid 2-3 years, and I´d very much like for the laptop to last a solid 6 for everyday use (ie. internet, videos, music, writing etc...)

Anyways, what sager do you have and how long has it lasted? Is it still in good shape? If not why?

Well I got my np9150 last July, so it has lasted for one year.

I did have to get the motherboard replaced because I dropped it (completely my fault) and it screwed up the charging port. Other than that, it is a really solid build and is in great shape. But if I were you, I would upgrade the keyboard. Sager's generally have pretty sub-par keyboards with poor input recognition (this could have changed with the newer models.)

my old P150HM lasted me too bit more than 2 yrs and i upgraded the initial 6970m > 6990m > 7970m and just sold it to a good friend of mine which still has my old MSI GT725 so this boost will get him definitely to new levels of performance :D

As with most anything else, unless there is a common design flaw that major attention has been called to, it will last as long as you take care of it. There are always isolated incidents too, but on a general note, Clevos are well built.

I`m glad to hear of such cases. I`m concerned about the cooling mainly as well, however I`m assuming they`re alright in that regard if they are ¨well built¨ in general. Myself, I`m just trying to decide between the np7370 and the np8230 right now, and regardless of which one I choose hoping it will last me many years to come.

i had the np9150 before, no problems for more than 6 mos. I sold it to buy a np9370. I'm using it everyday like a desktop since feb 2013, no problem until now.

I have a Clevo D900F, which was functional until 2011. I ran to the bus stop with it in the Targus XL backpack, then after not making the bus, saw that the laptop compartment was dangling from the backpack. After arriving late to class, my laptop wouldnt post. I still have it, sealed away, hoping to get a new mobo for it.

Couple months later, I purchased a P150HM, and still using it. :)

Like others have said above its all in how you take care of it. I had an np8130 for like 8 months or something and it was great. Guys I work with now used to run sagers daily, 8-14 hour days mon-fri and sometimes weekends, in terrible environments. I think theirs were compal rigs, but man most of them survived a long time.

Depends on your definition of "solid gaming" for X years.

If you are worried about the computer breaking down, buy the 3 year extended warranty. The price is quire reasonable. My notebook cost me about USD$2500 and I paied about USD$150 for the extended 3 year warranty.

If you meant running at highest setting for 3 years, then get a desk top.

How can you have had the M860TU for 6 years? My M570RU was purchased in Jan 08, so 5.5 years ago and the TU was the model after that... ;)

And it's still going strong - GPU has been baked tho, and replaced the right hinge today as the GF snapped it... But 3.2GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM and 8800M GTX still plays games fine. (And 1920x 1200 screen).

I don't really use it for gaming much nowadays as I have a desktop for that and my XPS 12 for mobility, but my GF uses it daily including some gaming.

And how long did you have that laptop theriko before the GPU fried?

Also, the warranty includes any kind of damage. Ie. If I drop it etc...or only fried CPU, GPU etc...

My P170HM is about 2.5 years old now and the only thing that's getting worn out is the keyboard (occasional missed keypresses, etc). Pretty steady use all day every day, including bringing it back and forth to work.

I didn't hesitate to buy another Clevo last month.

GPU failed around 8 months ago, so just under 5 years old - pretty good for a known bad series of GPU's.

Warranties very rarely include accidental damage, you'd have to get that separately.

I've had my P150HM for around 2.5 years. Is used most days, and has travelled around a lot. The 6970m hasn't missed a beat and is equivalent to a current 750m-760m. It's typical that a top end card will be more mid range after two years.
The build is very good as well. Everything works as new, and should continue to as long as the dust is cleaned out occasionally.

It´s good to hear such reports from sager-clevo owners. I suppose now I´m just trying to decide between the np8230 and the toshiba Qosmio X70-ABT2G22, the toshiba simply because I could get it for around a solid $300 less and with a 17inch screen. Only thing is I am skeptical as to that toshibas quality and there are no good reviews out yet. It would seem the sager is much more reliable, but I´m going to wait say another month or so.

I've had my M570U (Sager NP5760) since January 2007. I still use it nearly every workday. The battery needed to be replaced a couple years ago, and I just recently replaced the CMOS battery.

I can't say it runs newer games all that well, but it's been rock solid for me. It'll be hard switching from the 1900x1200 screen when it comes time to put it out to pasture. :(

Also on the Clevo m860TU and it has lasted me since August '08 so we're coming up on its 5th birthday here in a month. I've had to replace the GPU and now the hinge assembly (the part is on the way), but overall a great laptop and have seen many friends go through 2 laptops in the same amount of time.

Having to replace the GPU how difficult was that? Did they give you a good deal on it? I´m assuming that if my GPU fries or something along those lines and I have the warranty they will replace it correct?

My laptop was out of warranty so I decided to search the internet to fix it instead of sending it back to Sager. The hardest part was finding a GPU that would actually fit into the laptop considering the new nvidias don't have the same chipsets as four/five years ago. However, once I did find one (a person who bought old laptops for parts), it was very easy to physically replace it. I wouldn't worry so much about that. If you make it 5 years without having to make a big replacement, it has probably held up well.

almost 2 years on mine, replaced the fans already since it was running 24x7 for over a year on a project (being shut down only when needed), replaced the screen because of a thin red line started showing up (totally my fault, my cat used it as a jumping board :/), traveled with it numerous times, done the daily commutes with it.

pretty much abused the hell out of it and it's still kicking, the parts are so easy to get (thanks to mythlogic for this) that I'm not worried at all if it breaks down, it's so easy to open up and clean as well.
