Umm... Is it only me or can I not see an OP?

To answer your question, it really does depend on your desktop. If you have a 600t with high end cooling system then no, it will not be quieter.

Noise under load is one of the tradeoffs that have to be made for a lot of power in this small package.

EDIT: I should add that the noise isn't obnoxious. It's noticeable but definitely not like a turbine or similar object.

Lol, no clue what happened there, first time post hasn't gone through :)
    I'll post it here then.

I'm wondering how loud would a desktop be compared to Sager np8170.
I am thinking about putting together a desktop since I bought a new house and I'll finally have a dedicated computer room. However I was out of the desktop game for maybe 6 years now and I can't even remember how loud they idle and how much heat they produce.
I consider my Sager to be pretty loud at idle, and my cousins Asus g54 to be pretty much as quiet as they come.

    Are you bananas/peanuts yet?

To the OP, you can build pretty quiet desktops these days. Look for cases that have spaces for larger fans rather than lots of small ones, as larger fans don't have to spin as fast to move the same amount of air.

If you are interested in building a computer and want a really quiet case I'd go with the Cooler Master HAF 932, I have about 6-7 fans in that thing and the only thing I can hear is the TV downstairs and the humidifier in my room. Laptops will typically always have a higher decibel since you're closer to them anyway especially when the fans start spinning under load.

Id go for the Silverstone Fortress FT02 if you want a silent, well cooled PC. The Raven RV02 is also almost as good.

I was looking at Lian-Li A71F, like the simplicity of it.
So you guys are saying that the desktop shouldn't idle louder than Sager ?
Right now me and my fiance are sharing one room in my parents house and I don't want to put in a loud desktop in the room.
We still have 1 year before we pick up keys for our new house.

Wow, you bought a house and you have to wait a whole year to pick up the keys? It took less than 2 months from the time my offer was accepted to the time I got the keys. That's crazy!

If you build your desktop right you wont hear it over the ambient noise in idle.

Bummer! I'm sure it'll be nice when you finally do get to move in though! Good luck with that!
