I am planning to buy a Clevo NP8130 either from Malibal or exoticpc or powernotebooks.
Since I am out of US, wanted to know how are the odds of receiving a faulty notebook.
Sending it back would cost at least $200 and then back to me $200. That would be a pain.

I have an 8130. There's been no need for me to send it back. (purchased from xoticpc)
Earlier this year I ordered a DV6 from HP. I had to send it and a second one, back for refund. -

Where do you live, OP?
Mr. Mysterious -
I've purchased two Sager laptops. One directly from Sager and the other from xoticpc. Both were perfect right out of the box.

I understand your concern with being a International consumer. All notebooks are tested thoroughly prior to shipment. In our experience if a problem were to arise, most of the time it can be resolved over email/phone.

Please Note: In the unlikely event that you receive a laptop with a defective part, like RAM or HDD - we will pay all the shipping to replace it for you in the first 30 days. -
So far I bought an ASUS & some macbooks. The ASUS is here for 3 years without any warranty case.. with the macbooks I had some troubles but they cam after like 1 year of usage.

I hAve a Eurocom Racer and its been rock solid since day 1. Very pleased with the overall quality. I really like the way its put together for easy service.

For these models shipping outside of North America many have found it advantageous to add the pixel insurance for a small charge.
The factory checks these units more thoroughly and over a longer time period, especially of course the display... before it is boxed up and shipped,

i am an international customer and have bought two sager laptops from xoticpc. both have had zero issues.
with that being said, i think you will be in good hands with any active reseller in this forum. -
After two months I had to send mine back because gpu temps were too high. But not immediately, no sir!
According to my reseller the machine (already!) collected too much dust; they cleaned the fans, repasted the cooling paste and updated the BIOS. Got it back in two days and the problem is gone now. System: Clevo p170hm, i7 2720QM, 8 gb ram and a 6970M 2gb.

i had to send mine back, basically the GTX 560m wasnt working due to the mainboard needing a bios update, the display driver would crash immediatly after installing any nvidia driver, they acknowldeged the fact it didnt have the right bios and i recieved a new one within 7 buisness days...
However I was only peeved off because i was ensured it was tested to work fine before it left the factory when indeed it couldnt because it didnt have the correct bios to support the 560m. -
Actually I am planing to buy from MALIBAL since only they accept non US credit cards!
thanks -

by the way if I buy the Notebook without OS , you can still test it before shipment?
thanks -

I am most likely in the minority here, but I did have some problems with my first laptop. I had to send it back and get it fixed for the computer not booting up. Then after using it for about week, later it had more problems (possible GPU/monitor issue). I ended up returning it back and repurchasing a new one. My second laptop has been flawless out of the box. First laptop had the 6970m, my second laptop has the 485m.

I'd say Sager's failures are only a fraction of all the huge OEMs like HP, Dell, Acer, etc. No actual stats to back it up, but just based on my experience and of others. Just pay for the LCD no dead pixels to ensure you don't have any, save you the headache of returning just for that.

Depending on how knowledgable you are of electronics and aren't afraid, Clevo and Sagers are easy to work on yourself. Replacing memory, hdd's and video cards are simple. I've successfully replaced the screen on my Sager NP8170, didn't even have a service manual. Used a youtube video as my guide.

From Canada. Sending it back due to blown out Front Right Speaker. Just got it 4 days ago. Not a big deal , but I can't stand having a brand new laptop which cost me almost 2k and having a defective right speaker. They said its unusual case, then i am not just so lucky at all. :-(

oh my.. i so hope my MALIBAL is going to be fine (I'm from Europe-Austria)... don't even have the pixel warranty as it's not available for European orders :/

Just curious here, for the Sager resellers who is doing the extensive testing before shipping out to the customer? Is it Sager or the seller?
How do you test if the customer opt-out on an OS? What exactly are being tested here? -
The resellers just send order information to the factories, and they are the ones that ship them to you, thus all laptops ship from California even though resellers are located all over the US.

They have extra pre loaded hard drives that they put in that already have the drivers and utilities for the particular model being tested. Many hours of testing ensues after this..

How many of you had to send back your faulty laptop right after purchase?
