Zalman 2000 ? In Joga's review for the 5790 he says that under full load he had a temperature of 55 C with the cooler, 60 C without. That's pretty good but as he pointed out in bold, the reduction of the gpu fan's spin rate was far greater.

"Without Cooler: The fan spins for 2 minutes, 36 seconds, then stops for 35 seconds, then spins up again. Repeat.
With Cooler: The fan spins for 48 seconds, then stops for 40 seconds, then spins up again. Repeat."

This would surely prolong the life of the gpu fan motor and take a fair amount of heat off as well right? Over time I think these two benefits would add up for the overall lifespan of the system. So do you guys think it's worth using or do you really not need one, I realize the 5793 stays very cool on its own already.

Sorry misread that review, it was for a 5790 from july 07! I don't know if any of this is valid anymore, I think there have been cooling revisions since then.

I use a zalman nc1000. not all the times, but almost always while gaming. I like it as much for the incline as the cooling.

I use a Zalman nc2000. Really helps keep the internal fan silent.

I've been thinking of a cooler, but I have no problems whatsoever.... sure it's better to have one, but I just don't feel the need for one....

My computer is very quiet in general, but the hdd is 7200 rpm and it gets almost 60 degree C at peak usage. My nc-2000 keeps it below 45.

I use a Zalman. I even throw it in my bag when traveling. It's not so much a performance issue for me as it is making the very small effort to possibly extend the life of my laptop.

In my old Amilo laptop the hdd was too close to the proc. Without cooler was gettting so hot I could not touch the laptop. The hihest temp I got was abut 80 degrees. It even cracked the case. Cooling pad will increase the hdd life, since it does not have any cooling.
