Im thinking of buying the Clevo P170SM

    But how noisy it it?

    Intel Core i7-4700MQ
    Kingston 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM DualChannel
    Samsung 250GB SSD
    Nvidia GeForce GTX770m 3GB GDDR5
17.3” FullHD-LED AntiGlare panel 1920x1080 (95% dot High Quality Panel)

I ordered one Monday but it's still being built so can't answer your question just yet - can't wait :D

I assume it'll be quite loud while gaming but everything else it should be quiet as a mouse.

I have the p170em which i think is very similar. I have the 7970m however. It runs quite silently for me as temps barely go into the 80's. The fans run at a pace where I dont notice them unless I reach out with my hand to feel the hot air blowing out from behind. The high speed fan setting kicks in if temps go beyond 90 so that is understandable.

Personally, I don't get to those kind of temps even if I play some heavy game on max settings for a few hours. You could get there with some stress testing though if you're really curious though.

Bottom line: my AC probably makes more sound than my laptop right now.

You shouldn't hear any more noise when going from the 770M to 780M. When the fan is on max with either card its going to sound the same as its the fan making the sound not the card itself.

he shouldn't. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that the 780 seems to run a little hotter than other cards. People seem to be reporting temps around 85 degrees. It would seem if the chances of it running to 90 or more are higher, it might end up making more noise.

beware that, at least in my case, what matters is not only the card temp, some days ago it was really hot (with high humidity) and sometimes the fan will go at full speed even if the temp of the 780m was 64-65, now with lower temps and lower humidity the fan doesn't go at full speed....
so, at least in my case, you have also to check your room temp and humidity, not just the card temp :)

these summer hot days are not the best for these high end cards, so be careful :)

The card temp is what the GPU fan monitors, of course the room temp will change the GPU temp but it's that hard temp it relies on.
