How reliable is Clevo, Sager? When I say that, I mean the parts they use in the laptops, customer service, product satisfaction. I ask this because a friend of mine works at Futureshop and he said they use real crappy parts that last like 2 years. Is that true? If so, YIKES!

I was thinking about getting Clevo laptop M86UT or something like that.

So can I get the owners to elaborate on this topic, please?

Why the hell would you listen to some tard that works at futurehsop? Hes obviously just trying to push his own hp systems. Do some searches about this. More precisely research the exact system you want and find reviews and user testimony. I'm sure certain sager products might not be that great (from several years ago) while others might be amazing. Its all about researching the exact system you want rather than the general brand.

He works at Futureshop, he must really know his stuff (Sarcasm Alert). Most people that work at stores like Futureshop and Best Buy wouldn't know the difference between a hard drive and a graphic card even if it was written on it. Plus they want to sell their product so don't trust them. Like smood said fine the model you want then fine reviews on it but not just one review.

    Just My 2 Cents

    please read the Clevo Guide.

.... you will find that Clevo has been around longer than even Dell. ;)

Those that know about notebooks... ODMs, OEMs, etc..... would know that Clevo has been designing and manufacturing for boutique brands like Sager, Alienware, VoodooPC, FalconNorthwest, etc... for many many years. They are known, to those that even know their stuff, to have superior build quality and design.

We have had many threads about reliability and such... just search for them.

Trust Clevo and Sager, you can great quality and support. The only thing I ask to Futureshop sellers is where's the stuff I'm looking for. You can read my review or guide (link in sig) if you want to get one, either for the laptop or import ;)

In the past several months I have done extensive research on the web for Dell, Alienware (Dell), HP and Sager. Filtering out the bashers on one end, and the cheerleaders (or KoolAid drinkers as Bill O'Reilly would call them) on the other, I can say that Sager/Clevo laptops definitely appear to have more satisfied users.

The quality of the laptop seems to be better, and the quality of service from Sager resellers (like Powernotebooks, PCTorque and XoticPC) appears to be light years ahead of the others.

I've decided to put off my purchase for the time being, but as it stands now I will definitely be buying a Sager.

    Just my 2 cents!

Sager NP2096/Compal JHL90 at XoticPC or Pro-Star or there's also the MSI-1651 at XoticPC if you want to stick with Sager and Clevo :) Otherwise, there's a lot of choice in the Asus N/M lineup.

I will kick a dead horse and agree. Nothing has died on me thus far.

On my old Gateway I went through a keyboard, a hard drive, a dvd drive, 2 batteries, and an express slot. I didnt even bother fixing my loose touchpad button or slightly pushed in screen.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the build quality of my Sager 5793. I think the only complaint I've heard about these is the audio jacks being frail but I don't use them so I have no comment there.

It's not the most efficient design (19 screws to replace the hard drive @.@) but I can say everything inside it works great and has been going for almost a year of daily use without a hiccup.

I am very happy with my Sager NP9262. Donald Stratton at www.powernotebooks.com is who I purchased mine from and you cannot beat their customer service/tech support. Look no further.

As for reliability, I would Sager/Clevo compare to big car maker. Most people are extremely happy with their purchase but you will get a lemon thrown in there occasionally.

I'm typing on a Sager 5720 (purchased September 2005). This laptop has been a beast. It's been used for gaming (7800 GTX, games like WoW, WAR yes Warhammer runs pretty good excluding fortress sieges, and CODs). It has went through a 15 month deployment to Iraq. The only things that show wear and tear are the following: Bison Webcam doesn't work anymore, infamous palm print engraved in the body due to me playing WASD games, and I had to replace the keyboard because my 2 year old decided to pop the keys off while I wasn't looking lol. $60 and Sager sent me a new one. Monthly I would unscrew the back in order to blow out the dust built up to cooldown the videocard.

I guess I've got luckier than a few on the longevity of this Sager, but if I was gonna buy another laptop, I wouldn't look any further.

Also remember, most ppl don't come to forums to cheer about their purchase. Misery loves company so you will always see ppl complaining, rightfully complaining if the laptop is broke tho.

Nothing is wrong with buying directly from Sager, but their support doesn't seem up to the level of the resellers like XoticPC.

Goodluck with your purchase if you decide on going with Sager/Clevo.

Those budget laptops don't come with warranties. He got the whole family them and its always sad to see when keys pop up of place :(

Bless my m860tu's soul, people still think it looks sexy and want to steal it.

Man, thanks for the insight. However, to me, I want the BEST customer support or the customer support should have some knowledge on what the problem is and FIX the problem,,, unlike HP. Man, I despise HP. I had "broken" LCD with "scan lines" and they claimed it was defected harddrive. What a load of BEEP.

Since no one mentioned them yet I had good luck with eurocom.com buying a M860TU. They replaced my X9100 CPU because it was running too hot. I still had to undervolt with the help of scourge18a. All the support was prompt and the build was nice.

Heheh yea sorry for practically sig jacking you but we have the same comp!

That drive is sick. I just use an external for large storage, movies anime ect. $904 US THO!! I think even if they had it when we bought our comps I might not shell out the extra $500. Just think when the price comes down in a few months we can upgrade it ourselves :p
