Is there a way to turn on the bluetooth with the W870CU so that it stays on persistently through a reboot yet? (Instead of turning it on with the Fn+F12 key combination at every boot time). I have the latest BIOS, 1.00.05, which does not have any BT options, and I tried to poke around the Windows driver, (Windows 7), to see if there was an option for turning it on permanently, but couldn't find anything there.

I want to use the BT under Linux, and until there's a Linux kernel, function key module for the Clevo, I figure that turning it on under Windows persistently through a reboot, would be the only way to make it work. (Please share if you have another method that works.)

    Thanks..

Nope, as far as I know there isn't. The thing is that the bt on/off switch is hardware wired so you cant autostart it via software while windows boots. No idea bout Linux but it should be the same way.

The only option that could turn it on from the start would be bios-level, but then again clevo doesn't include that option so you're out of luck :/

I looked into this problem some time ago because of a bluetooth mouse I had. In the end I sold the bt mouse because I found it too annoying to turn on bt everytime I booted.

Well basically Clevo should just add the option to remember BT status during reboot and after shutdown. Shouldn't be a problem really, but i know most manufacturers do leave this option out to save power, believe it or not.

no need any more to compile any thing, just use the new bios for W870CU.

Good catch mussadek. My prior answer was in error, sorry for any confusion. (I admit that in addition to upgrading my linux kernel, I also updated the BIOS at the same time, so I was mistaken in thinking that it was the kernel upgrade, rather than the BIOS upgrade that fixed this problem.)

The Clevo engineers did in fact fix this problem with the latest BIOS release for this laptop, (although there's no setting for it in the BIOS, and there's no mention of the bluetooth fix with the BIOS). Now, in order to be able to turn on the bluetooth radio under Linux, the BIOS needs to be upgraded to at least the 1.00.10 02/10 release. (You can get it from Blacky's Clevo BIOS thread). Then once booted into Linux, pressing Fn and F12 will turn on the bluetooth radio, complete with turning on the laptop bluetooth LED. Unfortunately it still needs to be turned on like this every time you boot your computer, but it at least works the same, under both Linux and Windows, which is the minimum I needed.

Finally I still would like to see Clevo provide a persistent on setting for the bluetooth and WiFi hardware in the BIOS. That way users could choose if they want either of the radios on all of the time or whether they want to turn them on manually all the time. I don't think that one radio should be able to persistently on (WiFi), and the other have to be explicitly turned on after every reboot, (or wake from sleep), (bluetooth).

    Thanks..

I have this new bios installed, in my xxodd w870cu, but from within linux (ubuntu) i still can't enable the bluetooth (no led, not showing in linux). Any tips where to look for making it work?

Thanks for the info.. I did try this too but no dice :( ... Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's an xxodd .. Before I continue I will open up the chasis to see if there is in fact a Bluetooth device. If not, I know what the problem is, and will have to talk to xxodd!

    Thanks for the help.

Hmm I think I know what is wrong.. The Firmware has been flashed, but not the bios, even after I executed step 2. I redid this step, also with the newest bios update (.12), but still no dice.. Will have to check and see what is going wrong.

I hoped the W880cu got the same addition, but upgrading to EC 1.02 en Bios 1.05, it still doesnt remember the Bluetooth state. And now I still need to manually initiate the bluetooth signal when starting...

Anyone had luck, with enabling this ? Simply flashing a W870cu bios to a W880cu doesnt seem that good idea.
