I was wondering how i can change the auto-dim feature on my Sager NP5793. I did a couple of google searches trying to find an answer, and the closest i got was in the acer section of this forum. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=205743

I have the same problem as the OP of that thread, down to the end of the thread, i also dont have a brightness setting on my power options or advanced settings of the power options. Anyone have any ideas? Im running windows 7 beta, specs in sig

To confirm, your power option screens don't look anything like these? I'm also using Windows 7.

i think i found the problem, i did a windows help search and it told me i should update my drivers for my monitor...however when i go to the device manager and search for a new driver online for my "Generic PnP Monitor" it comes back saying i already have the best driver software installed

Hmm, well would Nvidia's driver have anything to do with the available options? What version are you using?

im not completely sure, because i downloaded so many different ones because most of them wouldnt install, giving me this error:
    Code:
the nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. setup will now exit
even the nvidia geforce 9800GTS driver for the windows 7 64 bit beta...which is exactly what im using...i even tried uninstalling all display drivers to install it and it still wouldnt install...so finally i tried the nvidia laptop driver update for windows vista 64 bit downloaded here:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_179.48_beta.html

and there is no brightness option in the nvidia control panel..and its version 2.2.275.00

i just checked, i have the nvidia geforce 9800M GTS driver version 7.1511.7948 released 1/30/09

Unfortunately the brightness setting for the 5793 (M570RU) is hardware only and not controllable through software.

    And you're not using a 9800GTS, you're using a 9800 M GTS, they're very different

unfortunately, you just have to manually adjust the brightnes when you go onto battery/ac if it is not to your liking.

I've never had an issue with the power cord falling out with either of my psu's. Have you contacted your reseller about maybe getting a replacement psu?

no, i dont think it would make a diff, i think thats just how the psu is, not a defected one..and i move my laptop around, its not on a desk all that often, which contributes to it falling alot
but im going to send an email to sagers technical support asking about it just in case

As I say, I don't have that problem with either of my psu's on my 5793 (equivalent), so it's not a standard issue.
