    Hi,
I want to change display from very weak stock display LG Display LP173WF1-TLC1 (17.3" FHD 16:9 "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen) for AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5 (17.3" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen w/ 72% NTSC Color Gamut) and before I proceed need some information about disassembly of display. What I find out till now I need to unscrew 6 screws from the front cover? Is that all or maybe are there some things what should I get on my attention before I'll do it ? (before I crumble front cover :) )

Thanks in advance for reply any advices are needed.

    Hi LightningPL,
I swapped the crappy stock LG screen in my Clevo x7200 by an AUO B173HW01 V.4 myself and am VERY happy with it ! :D
It's not very complicated to do, but you have to be carefull with the very small and "delicate" flatcable connector, especially while inserting it in your new screen. For the rest you can follow the basic steps as outlined in the following thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/544174-official-swapping-xps-17-l701x-screen-thread.html
This thread was very helpful to me...
    Good luck !

Just be aware that you may be invalidating your warranty in doing this :)

I have the LG LP173WF1-TLC1 in my new Clevo P170HM. But I'm VERY unhappy with it.

I can replace it with a B173HW01 V.4? What's the difference with the V.5? Where did you get yours? And can you give a little more explanation of the change from the old to the new? (maybe a pic?)

This is the reason why I'm unhappy with my standard LG screen. There is simply no good viewing angle. The bottom is far too bright and washed out. ( picture link) Was yours as bad?

It's really easy. So, you need to unscrew 6 screws from the front cover (picture in my first post). Then you need to dismount front cover try to start pulling from the top. After that you will see display to take it off you need to unscrew 4 screws from left and 4 from the right. unpin connector cable and that's all, put your new display and follow that same steps. Inside there is no any guarantee seal (in my case it was not). I have installed AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5 its matte display. It's much more better than this stock crappy LG LP173WF1-TLC1 (it's shame for Clevo for that). I bought from my local shop. But I can find it on ebay for sure.

I don't know the difference with the V.5 but I am VERY happy with the AUO B173HW01 V.4 compared to the crappy LG that was originally built in my x7200by Clevo. :D

    Changes:
    - much better contrast
    - black is regular black and not uneven grey (like in your picture)
    - real good viewing angles
    - colors are very sharp and clear (althought you have to get used to the high Gamut, especially the red. But you can adjust the color profile to your own taste of corse)
    - In general this screen is a few quality grades better as the LG...

My original LG was as bad as yours... :(

I bought mine from Kuzotronic.com. Very good and quick service. Got mine delivered (from UK to The Netherlands) approx. 1 week after ordering. I can recommend this shop !

I'm very interested in upgrading the screen myself, but I'll need to buy from a US seller.

Ok, I was posting in another thread but I see there's already a topic dedicated to panel swapping.
So apparently is quite easy, good to know. I see you guys went for the AU Optronics B173HW01 but what was your decision based on?
What other options would be for a panel replacement? What about the old Hannstar HSD173PUW1 panel that was the standard one on the X7200 before?

The Optronics screens are the best, period. I've heard unfavorable things about the Hannstar too. Some people have swapped that screen for one of the screens we're talking about.

Actually, I read all the reviews of laptops with the Hannstar HSD173PUW1 panel here Google Search - Notebookcheck.net and they say it's an excellent panel, it generally has very dark blacks of lower than 0.20 cd/m^2, a very high contrst of more than 1000:1.. only the brightness is considered somewhat average, with generally a value of 180 cd/m^2 or less..

Anyway, I've been reading this thread even though it's for a different model http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...cial-swapping-xps-17-l701x-screen-thread.html and it shows this site http://www.yslcd.com.tw/Product.aspx?&&ProdCode=B173HW01+V.4 as a possible buying site but.. well I might be dumb but I don't see where the hell is the "add to cart" or "buy" button!

Yeah the brightness is what I don't like about the panel. Why go LED, is it's not bright enough?

And what you think about these displays ? Which one is the best matte model: Chi Mei N173HHE-L11, HannStar HSD173PUW1-A00, CMO N173H6-L01 or AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5 ?

I have right now B173HW01 V.5 but maybe there is better matte display than this?

I clicked on Inquiry but it doesn't even show a price. I mean you have to inquiry with them what exactly? I just wanted to see how much it is and if they ship to Italy. It did look like it wasn't a selling site like the others, but that other topic with the guide says that people bought from there, so...

Anyway, I've been comparing the specification documents for the LP173WF1-TLC1 (current X7200 panel), the Hannstar HSD173PUW1 and the AUO B173HW01 V.4, and I have to say they have values that are completely different from the ones in the reviews..

To make a quick comparison between the three:

    Typical Contrast Ratio
    LG LP173WF1-TLC1: 500:1
    Hannstar HSD173PUW1: 500:1
    AUO B173HW01 V.4: 600:1 (best)

Typical While Luminance (brightness in cd/m^2)
    LG LP173WF1-TLC1: 200
    Hannstar HSD173PUW1: 220
    AUO B173HW01 V.4: 300 (best)

Typical Viewing Angle (up/down/left/right in degrees)
    LG LP173WF1-TLC1: 10/30/40/40
    Hannstar HSD173PUW1: 60/75/80/80 (best)
    AUO B173HW01 V.4: 60/60/70/70

They all have a typical response response time of 8ms. There are other values in the documents too but I would say these are the most important. The only other important one is the luminance of the blacks (in cd/m^2) but I didn't find that one. Maybe it has to be calculated from other values. If you guys may know better, here are the documents:

I went ahead and replaced the stock LG screen on my NP8170 with the AU Optronics B173HW01 V.5 and all I can say is YES! I am glad I did. Viewing angles and color are much more to my liking. Very easy to do and well worth it for me.

    1. remove 6 black screw inserts.
    2. remove 6 black cover screws
    3. remove (pop-off) trim piece around screen
    4. remove 8 screws (4 on each side) holding monitor to cover.
    5. disconnect old monitor
    6. connect new monitor and reassemble

It took me 20-25 minutes and I was not in a rush. The worst part was the small screws ... big hands.

That's true. Check with your reseller before doing the swap. It may definitely affect your warranty.

As for the "how to", to add to the above comments, -
Be careful with the connectors (use a wrist strap with grounding) and try not to scratch the screen when using screwdrivers.

The possibility will appear as soon as we get the M6600 and HP 8760w. The only 17" IPS screen out there today is the 1920x 1200p (16:10) found in the HP 8740w

~600$ as an upgrade option @HP (when configuring the system). The 16:9 versions will be cheaper and the ETA is pushed to late April.

I installed the B173HW01 V.5 in my XPS L702 yesterday. I ordered the anti glare version by accident but I really like it. I typically sit in a room with lots of windows and skylights.

The color profile posted in this thread seems to be the best one for it. The others (posted in the L701 Screen thread) don't produce a good yellow/orange color.

To those who have successfully swapped out their LG LP173WF1-TLC1 screens, what have you done with the old screen? Sure its a pretty disappointing screen but it does sell for about £90-ish GBP if bought as-new online. Im not sure there will be too many takers on ebay. Anybody have other suggestions aside from using it as a food tray or serving tea on?

No, the production of these specific screens has already been ceased. What you see is all that's left.

But, supposedly new premium options are to be revealed, in the coming months.

In the 17" category, there's said to be a 95% color gamut and an IPS in the production channel.

Oh well i can live with my default screen for awhile. Sounds like the longer i wait the better. I wonder if i could order whatever screen in the future and have a local shop install it rather than having to spend a bunch mailing my laptop to Xotic.
