Prior to the installation of windows I was able to boot from USB. Windows Seems to have modified the boot process and now USB boot doesn't work. This is really unacceptable. Is there a fix for this?

Change the boot device priority in your BIOS settings.

For P150EM/P170EM, to bring up the device selection manu when boot up, spam F7 when powered up. If you want to bring up the BIOS menu, spam F2 when powered up.

Where did you plug your USB stick in? Only the USB port near the audio jacks will work when boot into BIOS. Others are all 3.0 and they don't work until you boot into Windows.

By the way it won't say USB, instead, it'll show the name of your USB stick.

No, I installed windows from the USB 3.0 port. Which worked at USB . The USB 3.0 port doesnt require windows to work.

I realized I actually didn't try the USB 2 port yet. But I don't get why I was able to boot from the USB 3 port before I installed windows but not after.

Booting != Installing. If you try booting into Windows 98 DOS mode from USB 3.0 port it'll never work :p That's what I have come across and also confirmed by Malibal. And can you list all the drive options you got on the boot priority list and also the boot selection list? We need more information to be able to help.

I placed the USB 3.0 drive into the USB 3.0 slot, it booted the windows install from it, and it installed windows from it. Windows install booted from the USB 3.0 drive. I modified the boot.wim on the installation to include the needed 3.0 drivers. Windows modifies the boot chip when it installs.

Like I said it won't boot into Windos 98 Dos for vbios/bios flashing purposes when booting from USB 3.0, could you provide a list of the drives that's visible from the boot priority list and also the boot select menu?

The only options are the two Hard Disk, the DVD/Blu-Ray Disk Drive, and the Network Ethernet Connector.

The reason DOS doesn't work is because Dos doesn't have the USB 3.0 drivers. As long as what you are booting has the drivers for USB 3.0 then it will work.

What happens is when you install windows it overrides the boot sequence and places it self first, it prevents a boot from USB from happening.

The boot information for windows is located on the MOBO it self. If you were to remove the HDD with windows, then Microsoft Windows Bootmanger would apear and say the Windows 7 boot drive cannot be found.

It seems once windows modifies the boot sequence, it isn't something you can undo.

No it isn't, the problem is WINDOWS modifies the MOBO bootup process and prevents boot from USB from happening.

Pre Windows. Boot from USB possible.

Post Windows. Boot from USB no longer possible as MS has modified the MOBO boot process.

So what you are trying to say is that you were able to boot into Ubunto or other OS other than Windows 7 from your USB stick before you installed Windows 7 or you are saying you were able to boot into Windows 7 from your USB stick before you reinstalled Windows 7?

I was able to boot into WINDOWS Installation from the USB Drive. I need a way to be able to remove windows from the boot sequence.

There seems to be no way to remove windows portion of the boot sequence from the motherboard.

I am thinking the only way to remove windows from the MOBO Bios ROM is to flash the bios it self.

Was it still looking for Windows 7 boot drive when you remove the HDD or only says no drive detected?

Yes, when I removed the HDD with Windows 7, the Windows Boot Manager comes up and says it can't find the HDD with Windows 7, that the drive is either missing or damaged.

Yes it says it cannot find Windows 7.

Windows Bootmanger is installed on the Motherboard DIRECTLY, it is not on the harddrive. The boot information for OSs are installed directly to the motherboard.

Turn on your computer and hit the f7 key repeatedly, with USB drive in one of the USB 2.0 slots.

Take a picture of what you see and please post a pic.

Also, burn a bootable disk cd/DVD. Anything will be fine like gparted, hirens bootcd, etc etc. Remove the HDD from system, put in cd/DVD and restart laptop. Should look for cd/DVD drive for boot instructions.

Most bios set the optical drive to be first in order of boot. Was the case on my p150hm, Dell m1530, and HP a6400.

Sorry one last suggestion. Turn off hibernation.

Open cmd.exe as administrator. Run this command:

    powercfg.exe /hibernation off <enter key>

That should do it I hope!

Mine is a P150EM, the name of my USB stick always shows up in the F7 boot selection menu when I have the USB stick plugged into the USB 2.0 port (Black one not blue one, please check again), not sure what's wrong with yours, did you try other USB sticks? Also is your USB stick using FAT32 file system?

    I have discovered something.

    1. It seems boot from USB 3.0 is only possible if their is no OS boot system on the motherboard.

    2. Once windows installs it self onto your motherboard, I can't find any simple way to remove it. Seems like it is their forever. Basically once you install an OS, your motherboard is modified forever.

This sucks, I was able to install windows originally in less than 3 minutes using USB 3.0, seems to be a very strange bug to me. The fact that Boot from USB 3.0 only works prior to installation of an OS, but not after.

I am able to boot from USB 3.0 just fine with windows installed. The BIOS boot ability is not affected by having windows installed.

Anyways. Maybe you already have your issue resolved :)
