    Good day,

I got 4 8 gigs installed, and windows 7 home premium installed. Windows recognizes all 32gigs, but only 16 are usable. Do have to update the bios ? Or is it because some ram is reserved for the video card as windows in running off the on board card versus my ATI 7970 ?

    Thanks,

    - Jordan

I believe it's a limit to the version of the Windows 7 you have, home premium 64 bit's maximum usage is 16GB for RAM. Not sure if there are any hacks out there for the version of the windows 7 you have, but the legal way to obtain that would be purchasing a Windows 7 Pro ( limitation = 192gb) or higher.

Check out this page if you are interested in the memory limits for various releases: Memory Limits for Windows Releases (Windows)

hackness is exactly right, home is limited to 16GB. You do need Pro, Ultimate, or any version of Windows 8.

There have been many attempts at modding system files in order to circumvent the 16 GB limitation, but doing so will invalidate the license (assuming you could find a workaround/hack). The best solution is to use an alternate edition that will support it, or upgrade to Windows 8 if you feel so inclined (or Windows XP 64-bit).
